Travel Nurse – Operating Room (OR) – Boston, MA Company: TNAA TotalMed RN Job ID: 1448187 Specialty: OR – Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Duty hours: 36 hours per week on 12‑hour rotating shifts Employment type: Travel Responsibilities Assist physicians and medical staff in caring for surgical patients, and provide pre‑ and post‑surgery care and education. Circulating OR nurses work within the operating suite but outside of the sterile field; scrub nurses handle and prepare instruments within the sterile field. Duties may include: Providing basic bedside care. Preparing, administering, and recording prescribed medication; reporting any adverse reactions. Serving as the communication liaison between patients’ families and the operating team. Ensuring the correct procedure(s) is performed on the correct patient. Initiating patient education plans as prescribed. Additional Duties Circulating OR Nurses Responding to comfort and safety needs of patients. Accurate care and handling of specimens. Monitoring equipment used during surgery. Inventory of surgical items pre‑ and post‑procedure. Scrub OR Nurses Selection and handling of surgical instruments and supplies during procedures. Inventory of surgical items pre‑ and post‑procedure. RN First Assistant (if applicable) Assist physicians by delivering direct surgical care. Help control bleeding. Suture patients following surgery. Physical Requirements Stand and walk for long periods. Bend, lean, and stoop without difficulty. Easily lift up to 20 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. May be exposed to chemicals or infectious diseases in the operating room environment. Qualifications Registered Nurse (RN) license. 1–2 years recent acute care experience as a circulating nurse, scrub nurse, or RN first assistant. ACLS and BLS certification; 2 years of nursing experience required. Additional certifications may be required before assignment.
