We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Part-Time PRN On-Call Registered Nurse to support hospice patients and families throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area. This field-based position is ideal for a dependable nurse who is comfortable working independently and responding to patient needs during assigned on-call periods.

In this important role, you will provide timely nursing assessments, symptom management, patient and family education, and compassionate support when patients need it most. You will collaborate with physicians, RN Case Managers, social workers, chaplains, hospice aides, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to help ensure comfort, dignity, and continuity of care.

Service Areas

• Local travel is required. Visit assignments will be based on patient needs, nurse availability, geographic location, and agency census.

Position Type and Compensation

• Part-time, PRN/on-call position
• Flexible PRN scheduling based on agency and patient needs
• $100 per completed visit 7am to 7pm 
• $200 per completed visit 7pm to 7am 
• Final compensation terms are negotiable based on experience and qualifications

Key Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to patient and caregiver calls during assigned on-call periods.
• Complete PRN and urgent nursing visits as assigned.
• Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and identify changes in the patient’s clinical condition.
• Provide skilled nursing care, pain management, symptom control, and comfort-focused interventions.
• Notify the physician, Medical Director, RN Case Manager, or appropriate clinical leader of significant changes, uncontrolled symptoms, safety concerns, or other urgent needs.
• Implement and follow individualized Plans of Care and recommend updates when clinically appropriate.
• Coordinate care with physicians, RN Case Managers, social workers, chaplains, hospice aides, facility staff, and other interdisciplinary team members.
• Educate patients and caregivers about disease progression, medications, symptom management, comfort measures, medical equipment, and caregiving techniques.
• Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and families during urgent or stressful situations.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and timely clinical documentation for all calls, visits, assessments, interventions, and care coordination activities.
• Provide a clear handoff to the assigned RN Case Manager or clinical team following each on-call event.
• Ensure compliance with hospice regulations, professional nursing standards, HIPAA requirements, and Millenia Hospice policies and procedures.
• Represent Millenia Hospice with professionalism, compassion, dignity, and respect.

Required Qualifications

• Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Texas.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability and willingness to travel throughout the assigned service area.
• Strong clinical assessment, symptom-management, and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to respond calmly and professionally to urgent patient and caregiver needs.
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Ability to complete accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Ability to successfully complete required background checks, license verification, and onboarding requirements.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and complying with HIPAA and agency policies.

Preferred Experience

• One to two years of hospice, home health, palliative care, or related nursing experience is preferred.
• Previous experience providing after-hours, on-call, or crisis nursing support is highly valued.
• Experience with end-of-life symptom management and patient and caregiver education is preferred.
