Associate, Business Development

Position: Associate, Business Development Reports To: Managing Director Business & Geoscience Technology Department: Business Development Employment Status: Regular, Full-time FLSA Classification: Exempt Position Summary: Serve as a primary business development resource for SEG staff as the Society broadens its focus beyond traditional oil & gas. This role will expand SEG’s programs, activities, and funding opportunities across the full spectrum of applied geophysics, including, not limited to conventional O&G, including mining and near surface geophysics. SEG continues to build strong relationships and partnerships with corporate constituents and allied organizations across the broad scope of energy, expanding our conventional allies, composed of National Oil Companies, E&P companies and the Seismic Industry, with focus on areas such as Mining, Water,Geothermal, Carbon Capture, Carbon Sequestration and other green energy related fields. This role will be instrumental in leveraging this ample platform geoscience fields to benefit and support all SEG and its global operations as well as the SEG Foundation. He or she will focus on developing value to SEG in emerging geophysics, integrated geoscience, and engineering markets. Supervisory Responsibility: Individual Contributor Essential Functions: Embrace roles and responsibilities and utilize best practices to provide excellent business office support to all Portfolios within SEG to increase opportunities related to that business line. Continuously expand SEG’s global network of corporate and professional society relationships, including IOCs, NOCs, contractors, and ministries …with the goals of obtaining critical feedback on SEG’s effectiveness (to advise the senior management team and volunteer teams), anticipating the future …including product and service needs, surfacing new business opportunities, and courting Foundation support. Daily review industry global scouting reports and use professional networks to define areas of industry activity, technical developments, regional needs, hot topics, research needs, and key players. Be the finger on the pulse of the profession and the membership and collaborate closely with staff to develop opportunities. Support and deliver upon the interests of the SEG Foundation and their initiatives. Specifically, as a Geoscientist, communicate the goals and direction of the overall business of the SEG to align the intention and direction of the SEG Foundation. Additionally, embrace the desires of the fund-raising aspect within both the Foundation and the SEG. Proactively reach out to SEG Sections and Associated Societies. Here as well, with the goals of obtaining critical feedback on SEG’s effectiveness, anticipating the future …including product & service needs, developing new business opportunities, and courting Foundation support. Develop and grow a network of professionals, academics, researchers, and students for the purpose of keeping SEG’s finger on the pulse of R & D and developing research opportunities for SEG. Help drive and accomplish the strategic focus of the SEG Board, initially to include the development of a portfolio of products and services targeting young professionals. Forge and create new opportunities within all areas of applied geophysics. Experience Required One to five years’ employment in Geosciences, Engineering, or any other Earth Science related field. Education, Certifications and Specialized Training Minimum bachelor’s degree required. Job-Specific Skills and Knowledge Global outlook and experience, preferably in the energy industry. Physical Demands and Working Conditions Must be able to perform work indoors in climate-controlled private work area with minimal noise, performing primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and routine lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and computer. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular and reliable attendance. When attendance at Society-sponsored conference(s) is required, they must be capable of moving around and working on exhibit floors for extended time periods.
