Michael Baker helps freight, authority and state Department of Transportation clients meet these modern challenges by providing services that address key industry issues such as state of good repair, capacity, safety, community livability, asset management and maintenance, planning and development for new projects, and the promotion of environmental stewardship and sustainability.We provide value by first understanding our clients' needs, then working with them as a partner to identify innovative and cost-effective solutions that optimize their opportunities for success.Michael Baker is seeking a talented Rail Project Manager with a specialization in track and civil design, to help make a difference in our Rail and Transit Practice.Seeking candidates based out of any of the following regional locations, to work in a hybrid remote/in-office capacity:Moon Township, PACleveland, OHChicago, ILBaltimore, MDWashington D.C.The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience on design projects for Class I railroads and/or local and national rail transit agencies and be able to support projects and offices across the country for railroads, transit agencies, and DOTs.Responsibilities include:Reviews project proposal or plan to determine scope, time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.Establishes work plan and staffing for each phase of project and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel.Develops/implements project plans/methodologies for complex projects, varying between single and multi-discipline practices.Consults with project staff to outline workplan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority; manages the resources of the project.Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.Perform analysis of project management development and success in order to align with company goals and strategies.Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required.Prepares project reports for management, client, or others, and performs cost management analysis.Develops and maintains client engagement to ensure satisfaction.Leverages project successes to win future projects.Coordinates project activities with other railroad departments and projectsCoordinates project activities with government agencies as required.Conducts safety meetings and training programs to ensure safety requirements are met.Collects, compiles, and analyzes project files. Organizes and maintains file system and files correspondence and other records for inclusion in reports or presentation materials and memorialization.Builds intimate familiarity with railroad standards, manuals, and policiesReviews project design and contract plans and specifications for conformance with client technical requirementsAttends on site or virtual meetings with client representatives as requiredTrain and assist others in rail track and other rail civil designsProvides detailed monthly and on demand project accounting and status reportingObtains all required railroad safety certifications and trainings and support safety initiativesOther duties as assigned.Occasional to moderate travel may be required.What You Need to Succeed:Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering requiredUndergraduate focus or Master's Degree in Railroad Engineering strongly preferred5-10 years of demonstrated experience in civil and geometric design, rehabilitation, and construction with a railroad specializationPE license required; NCEES record preferredProject experience and relationships with Class I Railroads and/or local Rail Transit agencies required.Familiarity with AREMA standards required.Knowledge of CSX, NS, UP, BNSF, CP, and/or CN standards desired.Project experience with local transit agencies and their standards desired.Ability to travel to other office and job site locations in the regionExperience preparing and reviewing rail track/civil design plans and specificationsExperience in construction phase servicesExperience in working on multiple projects concurrently, managing project deadlines and on-time submittalsExperience with office software and CADD softwarePossess client management skills and ability to develop and enhance solid client relationshipsAbility to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary teamExcellent verbal and interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilityStrong work ethic and integrityWhat Would Make Me Stand Out As A Candidate?Proven rail track/civil technical experienceDemonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks or projects concurrentlyPossess strong initiative and demonstrate a proactive, collaborative approach to project development and communication with project team members, clients, and contractorsStrong relationships with Class I Railroad(s) and local transit agencies and understanding of coordination requirements and preferencesPrevious use of CADD software including Bentley products.Experience with construction management and document control for rail constructionWillingness and ability to mentor and advise young staff on rail projects, operations, and engineering best practicesCompensation:The salary range has been determined to be between $101,500 and $160,000 for this position. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
