POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists physicians in performing nursing procedures for the comfort and well being of all patients. The population served includes infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. (all life spans) The L.P.N. works with professional and non-professional employees of the hospital, physicians, patients, families, visitors, allied health professionals and may be required to interact with students and their instructors.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Observes patient physiological, spiritual, and behavioral status.
2. Performs delegated functions in compliance with hospital Policies & Procedures in an organized fashion to patients of all ages.
3. Performs nursing functions in an organized fashion.
4. Accountable for maintaining and improving own nursing knowledge.
5. Supports the hospital’s philosophy, goals, and objectives.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

Experience: Based upon position to be filled.

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of Practical Nursing.

Special Qualifications: Current Louisiana license with State Board of Nurse Examiners. Maintain current CPR Certification. Must be IV certified (minimum 30 hr course).

Budget: Provides input to Nurse Manager regarding the need for supplies/equipment.

Employees Supervised: CNAs, PCTs Ward Secretaries assigned to team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Lifting 50 lbs. Maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects.
2. Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of patients and objects.
3. Balancing by maintaining equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, crouching, running, or standing.
4. Stooping, kneeling and crouching.
5. Reaching in all directions, handling objects and patients with hand(s), fingering by using fingers primarily and feeling.
6. Clear speech, acute hearing, acute sight (near, far, depth perception, accommodation and color vision).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Spends 75% or more of the time indoors.
2. Hazards relating to combative patients:

At Risk – Exposure risk to hazardous chemicals.

At Risk – Exposure risk to communicable diseases.

At Risk – Exposure risk to infectious diseases.

At Risk – Exposure risk to blood borne pathogens.
