Kern Community College District Salary: $67.00 Hourly Job Type: Temporary – Adjuncts Job Number: FY21-22-00474 Location: CC – ESCC, Bishop/Mammoth, CA Department: Social Science (SSCI) Basic Function We are soliciting applications for part‑time, hourly adjunct instructors in psychology. The starting salary range is $67.00/hour; the hourly rate may vary by assignment and the Lecture Hour Equivalent formula. Representative Duties The successful applicant will provide instruction in psychology courses, particularly General Psychology, for transfer to four‑year institutions. The general psychology course is a 54‑hour lecture course offering students an introduction to the scientific study of behavior: perceptions, thinking, motivation, emotion, intelligence, and learning, as well as general psychological principles. The course may be delivered in a classroom in both Bishop and Mammoth Lakes two days per week for 16 weeks and may be delivered partially via interactive television and/or online. The applicant may be expected to spend equal time in both the Bishop and Mammoth Lakes classrooms and complete any required training for online instruction, as needed. Minimum Qualifications Master’s in psychology. Or bachelor’s in psychology and Master’s in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience, or social work. Or possession of a valid credential that authorizes full‑time teaching of Psychology at the California Community College level. Or the equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications. Candidates must submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form with supporting documents. A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students. Degrees and credits must be from accredited Title V institutions. Knowledge & Abilities Ability to work effectively with colleagues, promoting innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population. Ability to work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals. Ability to develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities. Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to maintain subject‑matter currency. Ability to assess student learning outcomes. Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that benefit the program.
