Overview TxDOT's Bryan Area Office is looking for a Construction Inspector I or II . This position supports construction inspection for roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications. The inspector may serve as the only inspector on a project or assist in overseeing inspection activities for large or complex projects, under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer. Work Location, Schedule, and Travel Location: Bryan/Brazos County (2102 TABOR ROAD, Bryan, TX 77802-2760) Travel: Yes, up to 10% of the time Schedule: Compressed - Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am – 5:30 pm; may require overnight travel up to 5% and location flexibility onsite. Responsibilities Inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure compliance with plans and specifications for roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures. Act as consultant on work progress and problem resolution. May supervise or assist in overseeing inspection activities on projects and provide data collection and documentation throughout the project lifecycle. Advise supervisor of inspection activities and problems; coordinate inspections Analyze procedures to identify deficiencies and recommend improvements Calculate payments due contractors for work completed Consult with Project Engineers, resident project representatives, and contractors on work progress and problems Ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards Monitor project phasing and traffic control or airport closure plans Support district maintenance inspections Assist in engineering-related data collection, inspections, assessments, and plan development Document work progress and issues Perform other job responsibilities as assigned Minimum Qualifications Education : High School Diploma or equivalent Experience : Construction Inspector I: None Construction Inspector II: 1 year of experience in construction/inspection, engineering support, maintenance and repairs, materials or process inspection, or transportation engineering support-related experience. Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted year-for-year for experience. Licenses and Certifications : Valid driver’s license; this position requires driving a state vehicle.
