Nutrition Aide

The City of Norwalk is seeking a Nutrition Aide to join its team and work in the Elderly Nutrition program at the Social Services Center. The ideal candidate should have a strong passion for serving the senior community of Norwalk and a positive, compassionate attitude toward their work. The Nutrition Aide will assist the Recreation Supervisor in managing the nutrition program for Home Delivered Meals and Congregate.

This role involves providing administrative and program support to the assigned Site Coordinators and Meal Drivers in coordinating senior program services.

Essential Duties

• Assists with caterer meal deliveries, sorting food trays, prepping areas for home delivered meals.
• Follows food safety, sanitation, and temperature guidelines.
• Checks time and temperature of all food items.
• Assembles meals according to county regulations.
• Greets customers.
• Serves meals.
• Maintains sanitation standards, including cleaning equipment, sterilizing utensils, and following food safety protocols.
• Stocks supplies, and assists with kitchen operations.
• Frequently stands for long periods, walks, reaches, bends, and lifts or moves items.
• Provides additional support as needed.

Qualification Guidelines

Knowledge of: maintain pleasant working relationships with all employees, clients, vendors, and City and County representatives; speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listen and receive clarification; respond to questions, and use of PC operations and software such as Microsoft Office Word and Excel. Skills in: problem solving, written and communication. Ability to: perform multiple tasks simultaneously, prepare written reports, correspondence and maintain accurate records, effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, directors, clients, and the public. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from various socio-economic backgrounds, verbally communicate and listen in meetings. Work independently as well as part of a team, work with multiple deadlines. Maintain a courteous attitude toward the public and co-workers, and ability to operate a computer, calculator, and other office equipment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from High School or GED equivalent and/or minimum of one (1) year experience in performing the duties in one or more of the areas listed above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• A valid Class C California Driver License, possession of a good driving record, transportation vehicle and
• Certified Safe Food Handler (successful completion of the ServSafe examination).
• Bilingual English/Spanish is desirable
