UHC - RN Clinic (Employee Health)

United Hospital Center

Position Summary The incumbent has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the nursing process. The incumbent applies clinical knowledge, uses independent nursing judgment, and provides care to patients and delegates care appropriately to achieve quality patient care outcomes. The incumbent demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide relevant care to patients under their care, applies principles of growth and development over the lifespan, and assesses and interprets patient data to identify each patient's age‑specific needs. Minimum Qualifications Education, Certification, and/or Licensure Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi‑state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). Current temporary RN permit as required by the state board where services will be provided. Documentation of recent graduation from a School of Nursing. Must obtain permanent RN license within 90 days of graduation for MD states; in OH RN must be licensed; PA requires Temporary Permit and permanent licensure within one year of graduation; WV requires Graduate Permit and permanent licensure within 180 days of graduation. Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire date. Preferred Qualifications Education, Certification, and/or Licensure Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred or Associate of Science in Nursing Degree (ASN) or Diploma, currently enrolled in a BSN program and BSN completed within 5 years of hire. Core Duties and Responsibilities Provides direct patient care within the ambulatory setting based on the nursing process and within the scope of practice. Performs preliminary assessment of patients through observation and chart review to facilitate appropriate follow‑up with the health care team. Evaluates unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention. Implements appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrates appropriate use of expert peers and/or management. Accepts accountability and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by health care providers to whom care is delegated. Demonstrates the appropriate use of standards, effective use of resources, and evaluation of patient response in the delivery of patient care. Uses standards of care and standards of practice to guide care delivery. Bases decisions on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care and/or research findings; seeks assistance when unable to perform safely and independently. Determines/revises priorities for direct/indirect patient care activities based on patient acuity and available resources, updates daily care plan to include appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling. Uses established patient care support systems including documentation, communication, and information. Responsible for educational instruction to patients and families with health care needs. Identifies teaching/learning needs of patient. Evaluates effectiveness of patient and family teaching and documents it in patient charts. Assists in orientation of new employees according to unit orientation plan. Applies information gained from educational experiences when providing patient care and instruction. Assumes responsibility for the development of others. Engages in mentoring and networking activities to promote professional development. Facilitates integration of staff and/or students into the health care team, incorporating the unit's mission, values, and vision. Demonstrates skill in the management of conflict situations. Promotes trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level. Engages in exchange of information relevant to specific patient assignment. Interacts with various members of the health care team to meet patient care needs. Participates in performance improvement activities as appropriate. Physical Requirements Minimize manual patient lifts; limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds; use lift equipment or patient handling aids as indicated. Heavy or arduous work: lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, carrying equipment weighing 40+ lbs. Working Environment Working closely with others. Protracted or irregular hours. Working around biohazards. Working around infectious diseases. Working with hands in water. Electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.
