Schedule: Night shift, 36 hours per week, 13-26 week assignments available. Patient ratios typically 1:6, varying by acuity. Weekend requirement: 4 shifts per 4-week period (flexible scheduling). Float requirements follow standard unit rotation.

Highlights:

• High-acuity cardiac telemetry and stepdown unit with 44 beds and diverse patient population including post-surgical cardiac and vascular patients
• Comprehensive case mix including post-CABG, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO (Watchman), electrophysiology procedures, and complex cardiac conditions
• 24-hour orientation with Epic charting system and Pyxis medication management
• Advanced skills including sheath removal, cardiac drip management and titration, chest tube management, and non-invasive airway support
• Collaborative interdisciplinary team including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and full clinical support staff
• Local candidates accepted; up to 7 days of pre-approved time off available (excludes first week and holidays)

Requirements:

• Current North Carolina or Compact RN license
• Minimum 2 years of recent cardiac telemetry or stepdown experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required unless candidate has more than 24 months of cardiac experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start date
• Proficiency in cardiac telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, sheath removal, cardiac drip management (with and without titration), chest tube care, and non-invasive airway management
• Experience with post-MI care, pre/post cardiac catheterization, and management of complex cardiac diagnoses including CHF, ACS, atrial fibrillation, and valvular disorders
• Familiarity with Epic charting system preferred
• Must be available for interview prior to offer; manager conducts interviews with all candidates
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Arterial line management experience
• Wound care and wound VAC experience
• Previous charge nurse experience

Patient Population & Clinical Focus:

• Adult and geriatric patients with cardiac and vascular conditions
• Post-operative care following CABG, valve replacements (AVR, MVR), TAVR, carotid endarterectomy, vascular bypass procedures, and thoracic surgeries
• Post-procedural monitoring following cardiac catheterization, cardioversion, electrophysiology studies, and pacemaker placements
• Management of complex cardiac diagnoses including endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, peripheral vascular disease, and venous stasis

Special Equipment & Technology:

• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry systems
• Femoral sheaths, TR bands, and Fem-stop devices for vascular access management
• Chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac systems) and epicardial pacing wires
• Non-invasive respiratory support (CPAP/BiPAP, nasal cannula)
• Doppler ultrasound, bladder scanner, and EKG equipment
• Arterial line monitoring (preferred skill)

Additional Information:

• Contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters
• Unit consolidation and reassignment may occur mid-contract based on facility needs
• Pre-start online modules required (approximately 8-10 hours, non-billable, must be completed using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge)
• Navy scrubs required
• Former facility employees must wait 12 months before applying
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays during assignment
