Underwriting Residential Real Estate Loans

Underwrite residential real estate loans for the Secondary Market Lending Division.

Employees Supervised: None.

Education, Experience and Certification Requirements:

1. High School or general education degree (GED); Bachelors degree or Professional Underwriting Designation preferred.
2. FHA DE status (CHUMS ID).
3. VA LAPP Approval (SAR #).

Basic Qualifications:

1. Strong commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
2. Minimum of 5 years experience in mortgage industry.
3. In-depth knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, USDA, and JUMBO guidelines.
4. Will be located in Miles City or Billings, MT, or remotely from a home office.
5. Strong knowledge of real estate loan policies, procedures and investor programs.
6. Strong communication skills.
7. Strong attention to detail, accuracy and analytical skills, performing multiple tasks under pressure with limited supervision.
8. Ability to effectively and accurately make sound decisions within the scope of underwriting guidelines.
9. Accurate keyboarding, 10 key skills, and computer experience required.
10. Ability to set priorities and work in an organized manner.

Dimension of Job:

Underwrite and evaluate residential mortgage loan applications to provide qualify loans for Stockman Bank and its secondary market investors. Responsible for the credit risk on all loans. Underwriter is responsible for the review and evaluation of loan files and will make decisions on files consistent with Stockman Bank's lending policies and all appropriate program guidelines. Assist Real Estate Loan Specialists in efficiently processing real estate loans originated by all branch offices. Underwriter must maintain a strong knowledge of real estate loan policies, procedures and investor programs while continuing to develop strong attention to detail, accuracy, communication and analytical skills.

Position Specific Responsibilities, Duties and Competencies:

1. Residential Real Estate Function includes, but is not limited to:

1. Maintain the necessary underwriting knowledge to effectively review and underwrite loans based on FNMA/Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, RD and secondary market guidelines.
2. Provide processing support and backup to Real Estate Loan Specialists.
3. Assist in effectively communicating underwriting issues, policies and procedures with lenders and branch managers.
4. Real Estate sale and funding, including determination of appropriate markets. Understand pricing, lock in, purchasing, commitments and delivery to secondary markets.
