Database Engineer

Shape how we store, move, and protect data across products—performance, reliability, and recoverability for enterprise customers. Key responsibilities Design and maintain PostgreSQL schemas, indexing strategies, partitioning, and migration plans in partnership with product engineering. Own backup, restore, replication, and failover practices; validate RPO/RTO targets with operations. Analyze slow queries and workload patterns; recommend schema and application-level improvements. Support analytics and reporting use cases with governed views, ETL patterns, or data warehouse handoffs as needed. Document standards for naming, retention, PII handling, and access—aligned to security and compliance expectations. Qualifications 4+ years hands-on with PostgreSQL (or comparable enterprise RDBMS) in production environments. Deep SQL expertise including performance tuning, locking, and transaction isolation tradeoffs. Experience with migration tooling, zero-downtime deploy patterns, and schema evolution at scale. Understanding of encryption, auditing, role-based access, and least-privilege database users. Strong collaboration skills with backend engineers and CloudOps/SRE peers. Nice to have Experience with columnar/warehouse systems (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) or dbt-style pipelines. Familiarity with Django ORM internals and multi-tenant data patterns.
