We provide training and advancement paths that allow you to grow your career while delivering essential services to communities that need them most.STG Inc. is a proud subsidiary of Calista Brice, a group of 20+ companies delivering construction, engineering, and environmental solutions across the United States.What can you expect?As the Project Engineer, you work onsite in Alaska and will serve as a key member of the project management team, supporting the planning, coordination, execution, and closeout of construction projects for construction crews working in extreme Alaskan conditions throughout Alaska. This role combines project controls, budgeting, estimating, scheduling, reporting, procurement coordination, and client communication with periodic travel to project sites to support field operations and verify project progress.You may be assigned responsibility for small scale (generally less than one million dollars), short-term (generally lasting 6–18 months) construction projects or supporting larger projects under the direction of a Project Manager. The Project Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements, design documents, and client expectations.How will you do it?Assist with project planning, scheduling, and tracking project activities to support timely execution.Contribute to estimating efforts, including gathering quantities, pricing, and project data.Support submittal management, change request preparation, and review of project documents such as drawings, specifications, permits, and RFIs.Prepare progress updates, reports, and project documentation for internal and client use.Coordinate procurement of project materials, tools, and equipment to meet schedule requirements.Determine basic labor and material needs, verify deliveries, and assist with tracking costs to the project budget.Assist with mobilization planning and support resource scheduling for project work.Travel to job sites as needed to support field operations and project oversight.Perform basic QA/QC verification to ensure work complies with project plans, specifications, and industry standards.Maintain daily logs, photographs, video documentation, and field records to support project reporting.Provide technical clarification to field crews regarding design drawings, DCVRs, RFIs, and other project changes.Assist with jobsite reporting requirements, including safety documentation, daily updates, photographs, and timecard tracking.Support and promote STG’s Health and Safety Program.Assist with on-site compliance and adjust work practices as needed based on safety audits or field conditions.Ensure field activities align with environmental, quality, and contract requirements.Perform physical construction labor as part of the field crew.Assist Project Managers with additional tasks and coordination needs as assigned.Maintain organized project documentation, field office spaces, and administrative systems.Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance project support skills.Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.Perform other duties as directed.Supervisory Functions: This position does not directly supervise employees but may provide task coordination and work direction to project support staff and field laborers assigned to specific project activities.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Understanding of construction methods, terminology, drawings, and field practices.Knowledge of construction, architectural, and building industry procedures and documentation.Understanding of federal, state, and local construction regulations and contract compliance requirements.Ability to read, interpret, and communicate construction plans, specifications, RFIs, and contract documents.Ability to support project financial reporting, including labor hours, materials, and subcontractor cost tracking.Proficient in Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and Outlook; able to use project scheduling or management software.Knowledge of quality control processes, inspection procedures, and documentation requirements for construction projects.Understanding of project controls, including scheduling logic, progress tracking, and performance measurement.Ability to support subcontractor coordination, including tracking submittals, RFIs, change orders, and closeout documentation.Ability to analyze project information, identify issues, and provide solutions or recommendations.Basic understanding of estimating, budgeting, and cost tracking principles.Strong ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Excellent written, verbal, and graphical communication abilities; able to interact effectively with field crews, clients, subcontractors, and office staff.Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate issues and proactively support corrective actions.Ability to recognize issues, gather information, and support resolution using sound judgment.Ability to actively listen and maintain professional communication with clients and stakeholders.Demonstrates integrity, builds trust, and follows company policies and procedures.Ability to adapt to changing project conditions, schedules, and priorities.Works productively with minimal direct supervision; strong self-motivation.Knowledge of safety regulations and jobsite safety practices; ability to support site safety initiatives and compliance.Ability to perform physical construction labor and operate safely in remote, extreme environments.Able to operate a motor vehicle safely in accordance with company policy.Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% for project needs.Who is STG Inc. looking for?Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required.One (1) or more years of construction or engineering project experience required.Ability to read construction drawings and specifications at a functional level.Ability to perform physical labor in remote and extreme Alaskan conditions.Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word, and experience using project scheduling or management software required.Valid state driver’s license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy.Ability to pass a drug, driving and background screening.Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience preferred.Experience with cost estimating, budgeting, or project cost tracking preferred.Familiarity with HCCS “HeavyBid” or similar estimating software preferred.Prior experience in Alaska’s construction industry, including knowledge of remote Alaska logistics and construction practices, preferred.Working Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. STG has a fast-paced multi-tasking office environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance. This position is primarily based in STG's Anchorage office and requires a high degree of efficient and effective performance in a fast-paced, multi-tasking project management environment. The Project Engineer routinely works with project schedules, budgets, estimates, contracts, reports, and other project documentation while coordinating with field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and clients. Travel to project sites throughout Alaska is required (up to 30% of the time) to support project planning, implementation, oversight, and closeout activities. Field visits may involve exposure to harsh weather conditions, remote locations, construction hazards, and extended work schedules, including overnight stays ranging from several days to multiple weeks.
