Position Summary

The Assembly Team Leader is responsible for coordinating daily production activities within the Assembly Department while supporting the Production Supervisor in achieving safety, quality, productivity, and attendance goals. This position serves as a working leader who assists with training, scheduling, troubleshooting, continuous improvement initiatives, and daily team performance.

The successful candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills while maintaining a positive, team-oriented approach.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and coordinate daily activities within the Assembly Department.
  • Support the Production Supervisor in achieving departmental goals.
  • Train, coach, and develop new and existing team members.
  • Communicate work assignments, production changes, and expectations.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide feedback to leadership.
  • Assist in resolving employee concerns and promoting a positive work environment.
  • Ensure team members understand and work toward safety, quality, and production objectives.

Production & Operations

  • Manage and support daily production schedules.
  • Monitor production output and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Verify quality inspections and production checks are completed accurately.
  • Review and correct production and quality documentation.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment and production issues.
  • Run assembly equipment during breaks, lunches, absences, and staffing shortages.
  • Operate forklifts and other equipment as required.
  • Check gauges, parts, and production records for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with implementation of process improvements and efficiency initiatives.

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout the department.
  • Conduct safety audits, walkthroughs, and observations.
  • Identify and communicate potential safety concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with all company, customer, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support 5S initiatives and maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Verify completion of 4M updates and end-of-shift checks.
  • Follow all plant rules, policies, and procedures.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Prepare reports and communicate key information to leadership.
  • Participate in daily production meetings.
  • Coordinate with support departments to ensure operational success.
  • Review records and documentation for accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of leadership, supervisory, lead, or team coordinator experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret safety procedures, work instructions, and operating procedures.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred

  • Automotive manufacturing experience.
  • Weld assembly experience.
  • Forklift experience.
  • Experience leading production teams in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, or 5S programs.

Physical Requirements

This position requires:

  • Constant standing and walking throughout the shift.
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Regular use of hands and arms.
  • Occasional climbing and balancing.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical equipment and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to perform hands-on production work when needed.
