Safety Director, Heavy Highway & Marine Construction

Location: Hauppauge, NY (Day Travel Required)

Salary: $160,000 + Bonus

Overview

Seeking a hands-on Safety Director to rebuild and lead a safety program for a growing Family owned 3rd generation heavy highway and marine construction company. This is a newly created role with strong visibility and future team-building potential. Typical job contract size starts at 6 million.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance company-wide safety programs
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, NYSDOT, Army Corps of Engineers guidelines
• Lead onsite safety trainings and drive safety culture
• Partner with field teams on safety procedures and workers’ comp reporting
• Manage safety across multiple job sites and government contracts
• Perform 25%-day travel (no overnights) across LI, Brooklyn, MA, and DE

Qualifications (Must Have)

• 7–10 years of safety experience in heavy highway/marine construction
• Hands on experience working with government agencies, NYSDOT, DEC, Army Core of Engineers
• Background in dredging, paving, milling, concrete, guardrails
• Strong OSHA knowledge and union environment experience
• Proven success building/improving safety programs
• Experience with change management and field collaboration

Required Certifications

• CSP, CSM, CHST, EM385
• OSHA 30
