Instructor/Assistant Professor of Powerline Technology Position Summary: A 9‑month faculty position located on the Rock Springs campus. Starting salary is $72,000. The role requires official transcripts as a condition of employment. Job Benefits Employer contribution of 9.37% to retirement plan with no waiting period 82% coverage of health, dental and life insurance costs Generous leave time with paid holidays, sick leave and personal leave Tuition reimbursement for employees and eligible dependents Relocation assistance up to $5,000 with itemized receipts Access to college amenities such as children’s center, library, aquatic center, fitness center, and theatre Responsibilities Provide quality instruction in electric power principles, lineworker safety, industry standards, fall protection, confined spaces, emergency response, measuring equipment, rigging, overhead/underground cable installations, and CDL training. Deliver instruction in classroom and labs, maintaining standards and objectives. State clear objectives and criteria in the syllabus, following Curriculum Committee guidelines and integrating college learning goals. Teach in varied environments and modes, including evenings, weekends, customized short courses, and alternatives such as internet. Advise students, understand Western graduation requirements, and update advising information in the Western Advising Handbook. Recommend course schedules, recruit and mentor adjunct instructors, prepare/ update course outlines, and propose new courses. Design and implement effective learning processes, providing feedback to meet Western Goals for Student Success. Develop relationships with colleagues, serve the community by engaging with groups and assisting with research and workshops. Build relationships with professionals in the college’s service area, facilitate curriculum planning, and organize advisory councils with industry partners. Collaborate with School Chair, Dean, and Director of Workforce Development to design industry‑aligned courses, meet with training directors, and accompany visits to powerline operations. Recruit stakeholders, collaborate with Director of Admissions, build relationships with high school instructors, visit high schools, and promote the value of Technical programs. Meet with local power industries to identify training needs and update curriculum. Maintain and repair lab and training equipment and facilities, and build training models. Schedule reasonable office hours for on‑campus and distance students, and engage with colleagues. Participate actively in the College’s Assessment Program, including Program Review. Minimum Qualifications Academic Credentials: Journeyman Utility Lineman license and four (4) years of professional experience with powerline operations or technologies. Related degrees: Electrical engineering, Substation, Powerline. Equivalent Experience: Associate’s degree in powerline technology and four (4) years of professional experience. No degree but eight (8) years of professional experience. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Exercise sound judgment in teaching diverse students. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills. Evidence of continued professional development. Equivalency Statement: Candidates who do not meet all minimum qualifications may be considered with an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field. Experience teaching at a community college.
