Job Summary

The role involves compounding and dispensing medical prescriptions while managing drug inventory and stock control systems under the direct oversight of pharmacists. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications based on written or faxed prescriptions received from clients, customers, or patients.
  • Utilizing computer systems to enter, access, and retrieve data, while maintaining patient profiles that include medication lists and new prescription or refill requests.
  • Ensuring proper storage and security of medications, managing inventory levels to guarantee adequate supplies.
  • Coordinating departmental quality assurance and client-focused services with supervisory staff, while fostering a safe working environment that complies with state regulations.

As a Senior Pharmacy Technician, you will operate with minimal supervision on daily tasks and receive general guidance on new assignments. Key responsibilities include:

  • Exercising discretion in determining objectives and approaches for additional assignments.
  • Resolving problems and generating innovative solutions, often requiring a broader perspective.
  • Evaluating completed work to ensure objectives are met and modifying existing tools and processes with leadership approval.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of new processes or techniques.
  • Acting as a resource for leadership and staff, mentoring others, and leading the resolution of daily challenges.
  • Ensuring compliance with pharmacy practice standards and policies.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED is required; an Associate's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, including providing guidance to others.
  • Must maintain annual registration as a Pharmacy Technician through the State Board of Pharmacy in the relevant state(s) and complete required continuing education hours.
State-Specific Requirements
  • Iowa: All pharmacy technicians must be nationally certified by an accredited board. New technicians must register as trainees within 30 days and achieve certification within 12 months.
  • Minnesota: Active pharmacy technician registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy and completion of a formal training program is required. Certification must be obtained prior to hiring.
  • North Dakota: Technicians must maintain active licensure; employers are not required to collect ongoing certification documentation.
  • South Dakota: Registration with the SD Board of Pharmacy is required within 30 days of hire. Certification is necessary for specific roles starting September 12, 2024.
