Food Service Worker - Penn Manor High School

Hours: Part-time, Monday Friday, 8:15 a.m. 1:45 p.m.

School days only, 27.5 hours per week, up to 180 days per school year.

This role involves assisting in and overseeing the preparation and serving of food items, ensuring food safety and sanitation, providing excellent customer service, and performing cashier duties. The position requires maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment and accurately handling transactions for the school food service program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Food Preparation

  1. Assist in and oversee the preparation and serving of food items for the food service program, ensuring minimal waste.
  2. Review recipes, prepare and serve food items per standardized recipes with correct serving utensils.
  3. Present all food in an appetizing manner and ensure it is served at the correct temperatures.
  4. Stock milk, beverage cases, entrees, fruits, vegetables and condiments to optimize eye appealing presentation and easy selection.
  5. Assist with catering events and food preparation as needed.

Customer Service

  1. Conduct all interactions with customers and staff in a professional manner.
  2. Implement the highest level of customer service by engaging in positive and helpful interactions with students and staff.

Sanitization, Food Safety & Cleaning

  1. Maintain kitchen and serving line areas in clean, safe, and sanitary condition following all HACCP guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  2. Utilize all measurement tools correctly and safely operate and maintain kitchen equipment.

Cashier Duties

  1. Ensure each register is prepared for daily transactions and all appropriate meal sales supplies are on hand.
  2. Collect and reconcile money for meals, a la carte, and account for meals served.
  3. Correctly identify NSLP breakfast and lunch meals and offer vs. serve to accurately meet state and federal reimbursement requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Some food service operations experience is helpful but not required
  • Valid PA Driver's license and/or access to independent transportation
  • Pre-employment requirements as designated by the PA School Code

Physical Requirements and Sensory Abilities

  • Ability to bend, twist, and kneel
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift/pull supplies on to carts that may weigh around 50lbs
  • Lifting occasional 30lbs, sparingly 50lbs
  • Ability to work in fluctuating temperatures with varying humidity levels
  • Freezer approx. 0 degrees for short periods of time
  • Refrigerator approx. 36 degrees for short periods of time
  • Dish room/kitchen in hotter months the kitchens can be very warm (80+ degrees)
