Clinical Nurse Educator

Job Title: Clinical Nurse Educator Department: Clinical Administration Reports to: Executive Director of Nursing Revision Date: 6/30/2026 Status: Full Time Job Summary Coordinates, develops, implements, and evaluates the Core Clinical Orientation Program for all Nursing Division employees, nursing students, and contract clinical staff. Partners with Clinical Directors to ensure a comprehensive onboarding and orientation experience, including the selection and preparation of preceptors, completion of required orientation activities, and successful integration of new and transferred staff into the clinical environment. Serves as the primary clinical educator for required nursing education programs, including Basic Life Support (BLS), Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), IV Therapy, LPN Blood Administration, Telemetry, and other mandatory clinical education as assigned. Maintains current, evidence-based educational content by regularly reviewing and updating curricula to align with regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and best practices. Collaborates with department leaders to educate staff on new or revised clinical policies, procedures, equipment, and standards of care. Duties/Responsibilities Coordinates and maintains the Nursing Division Core Clinical Orientation Program for new employees, nursing students, and contract clinical staff. Collaborates with Clinical Directors to identify and assign qualified preceptors and verifies completion of all required preceptor education. Facilitates the onboarding and socialization of new and transferred staff, promoting successful integration into the work environment and organizational culture. Develops, maintains, and delivers required clinical education programs, including BLS, CPI, IV Therapy, LPN Blood Administration, Telemetry, and other assigned nursing competencies. Reviews, updates, and revises educational curricula to ensure compliance with current evidence-based practice, regulatory standards, and organizational requirements. Develops and assigns annual nursing education and competency content within the Learning Management System (LMS). Coordinates American Heart Association (AHA) education programs, including class scheduling, instructor oversight, and ongoing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) program maintenance. Collaborates with Department Directors to develop and deliver education related to new or revised clinical policies, procedures, equipment, and regulatory requirements. Serves as the primary liaison for nursing school affiliations by coordinating student and instructor onboarding, orientation, and clinical placement activities. Supports quality improvement and patient safety initiatives by participating in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities and incorporating findings into educational programming. Creates and maintains a positive learning environment for employees, students, preceptors, and interdisciplinary team members. Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and the ability to respond effectively during emergency situations. Assesses individual learning needs and pursues ongoing professional development to maintain clinical and educational expertise. Participates in required meetings, committees, in-service education, and mandatory competency programs. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, employee, physician, and organizational information in accordance with hospital policies and applicable regulations. Promotes exceptional customer service through professional, respectful, and compassionate interactions with patients, families, physicians, employees, students, and visitors. Recommends process improvements, supports organizational change initiatives, and adapts effectively to evolving responsibilities and priorities. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational, time management, and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Demonstrated ability to teach, coach, mentor, and develop nursing staff and clinical learners. Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills with leaders, educators, physicians, and academic partners. Maintains advanced clinical competence and actively seeks opportunities to remain current in nursing practice. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise educational programs, competency assessments, and continuing education offerings. Working knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, and learning management systems. Ability to analyze educational needs and develop strategies to improve clinical competency and patient outcomes. Maintains current knowledge of nursing professional development standards, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practice. Complies with all Department of Health (DOH) requirements, including annual health assessments and required immunizations. Obtains and maintains required certifications applicable to assigned responsibilities, including specialty certification within three years when applicable. Schedule is based on organizational and orientation needs and requires flexibility to work various shifts to support new employee orientation, preceptors, and educational activities. Education and Experience Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Related Field Current RN licensure in New York State. PALS, ACLS and BLS certifications. Expected minimum five years of nursing experience, with at least two years of inpatient clinical experience. Working Conditions The physical demands described below are representative of those required for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee may occasionally sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb as required during educational activities or clinical support. The employee must frequently lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift, move, or assist with equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Responsibilities may also include assisting with patient handling, repositioning, and transfers. All patient handling activities are expected to be performed in accordance with the organization's Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) program, utilizing approved lifting devices, transfer equipment, and established safe patient handling techniques to minimize the risk of injury to patients and staff. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to safely perform clinical demonstrations, operate medical equipment, review documentation, and provide patient care instruction. The overall physical demand level for this position is classified as Medium Work , as defined by the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) , requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands exceed those associated with Light Work and reflect the combination of clinical, educational, and patient care support responsibilities of the position. Pay Range $43.00-$51.00/hr Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
