What your day looks like

You start in SAP, validating direct and indirect purchase orders and making sure indirect requisitions align with budgets and spend thresholds. Before the daily production huddle, you pull fresh supply data and highlight component risks so operations can pivot quickly. You weigh macro and micro material requirements against S&OP forecasts, then move straight into supplier conversations—requesting quotes, comparing bids, and negotiating price and delivery to protect timelines and costs.

Midday, you’re partnering with Scheduling, Supervision, Shipping, and Quality to keep raw materials flowing while preventing line interruptions. You clean up master data, standardize purchasing inputs, and nudge invoices to on-time payment. In parallel, you’re shaping supplier programs that cut cost and inventory, backing company working-capital goals. You’re also mentoring colleagues on procurement procedures, double-checking counts for raw and WIP at subcontractors, validating consigned stock on-site, establishing standard costs for direct materials, and continuously uncovering fresh cost savings.

• Enter and maintain purchase orders in SAP; verify indirect requisitions comply with budgets and limits.
• Supply monthly S&OP with data and insights; surface shortages in the daily production meeting.
• Quote, evaluate, and negotiate pricing and delivery for new and existing needs.
• Collaborate with Operations (Scheduling, Supervision, Shipping, Quality) to accelerate raw material velocity and prevent shortages.
• Standardize purchasing data practices and drive timely invoice payment.
• Develop supplier programs to meet annual cost savings and inventory reduction targets; support Corporate Working Capital reduction.
• Identify and cultivate strategic suppliers to elevate supply chain performance.
• Train teammates on procurement procedures and work instructions.
• Maintain accurate raw and WIP counts at outside subcontractors and manage consigned inventory on-site.
• Set standard costs for all direct materials and proactively launch savings initiatives.

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business field.
• 2–5 years of experience as a buyer.
• Proficiency with PC tools, especially Microsoft Office.
• ERP experience; SAP preferred.
• Willing to travel – up to 50%.

• Manufacturing purchasing background.
• Hands-on MRP buying experience.
• CPM certification.
• Experience with LEAN manufacturing.
• Knowledge of metals markets and alloys.

Must have full range of body motion. Certain operations require standing, walking, bending, squatting, full arm extension, and overhead reaching. Manual lifting, not exceeding ten (10) pounds may be required. Able to visit various manufacturing environments and wear appropriate PPE for the environment. This includes but is not limited to hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety toe shoes/boots.

• Pay: $59,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
• Schedule: Day shift; Monday to Friday; Weekends as needed
