Landfill Supervisor IIRecent graduates in environmental studies, or a similar discipline are highly encouraged to apply!As a Landfill Supervisor II at WM, you'll ensure adherence to state and federal regulations at closed landfill sites, traveling, mostly day travel, up to 60% of the time. You'll manage 4-6 contractors across various projects, overseeing execution, reviewing invoices, and interpreting data to maintain compliance and prepare clear, cohesive responses to regulatory requirements. This role is responsible for the environmental compliance work associated with our closed landfills and remedial sites.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupervise site staff, contractors and/or consultants performing operations and maintenance work at assigned sites to ensure the quality and timeliness of the work.Conducts, provides oversite, and ensures smooth operations including performance of routine operation, monitoring and maintenance, and construction activities. Monitors permitting and compliance issues.Minimizes operational costs while maximizing productivity and maintaining safety and environmental compliance.Possess or efficiently gain a solid working knowledge of all site-specific system operation and maintenance requirements, including landfill gas management systems and controls, leachate management systems and controls, water treatment systems and controls, landfill cover systems, surface water management systems and controls, and environmental monitoring networks, as well as other ancillary equipment and site maintenance requirements.Complies with and ensures adherence to WM's Mission to Zero standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.Assists in the budget process, as required, and adhere to those budgets at assigned sites.Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of the physical property of the landfill through inspections and preventive maintenance programs with supervisors/employees.Prepare or update and submit required reports in a timely manner.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesIndirect supervision of 4-6 contract employeesQualificationsThe requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.A. Education and ExperienceEducation: College Degree in STEM related field but not required. High School Diploma or G.E.D. (accredited)Experience: 4 years of relevant work experienceB. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other RequirementsHold OSHA 19.10.120 Hazwoper and general first aid training certifications or be able to obtain them within six months of employment.C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities RequiredMonitoring or testing equipment operation; health, safety, and environmental regulations knowledge; supervisory experience; computer-based word processing, data management and information presentation skills.Possess written and verbal communication skills, computer skills (e.g. MS Office and Power BI familiarity) and ability to learn other job related technical software. Including, but not limited to "App" based technologies to facilitate digital inspections, reporting and data/analytics.Some knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers, SCADA and/or automation and control systems is beneficial.Work EnvironmentRequired to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc) part of the workday.Required to exert physical effort in handling objects less than 30 pounds occasionallyRequired to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc.) part of the workday.Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements part of the workday.The normal setting for this job will be 60% field (primarily closed landfills) and 40% office base.Assigned to multiple facilities in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.
