RN - PCU

Registered Nurse (RN)

An opportunity is available for a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This role requires a commitment to patient care and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Unit Information

• BEDS: 40 beds with an average daily census of 24
• NURSE RATIOS: 1:4-5 on both days and nights
• COMMON DIAGNOSES: Adults with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer diagnosis, vascular issues, sepsis, adult respiratory problems, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure
• TITRATION OF DRIPS: Required for medications including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Insulin
• NURSE AIDS/PATIENT CARE TECHS: Ratios of 1:12 available for support

Equipment and Responsibilities

• RT Equipment: Includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow oxygen
• Tele/Monitor Techs: RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips
• CHARGE NURSE: Present on each shift and takes an assignment
• ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT: Features overhead lifts in half of the rooms, portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners

Shifts & Scheduling

• SHIFTS: 0630-1830 and 1830-0630
• WEEKEND REQUIREMENTS: Every other weekend
• HOLIDAY REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of 2 holidays within the contract timeframe
• FLOATING REQUIREMENTS: Potential to float to MedSurg or ICU for PCU acuity patients

Qualifications

• CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• SKILL COMPETENCY: Proficient in managing arterial lines
• EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: No BSN required, but must have a valid RN license

Additional Notes

The ideal candidate will be flexible, willing to learn, and open to feedback. Strong communication skills are essential, and the ability to work with diverse cultural populations, including primarily Hispanic and Somali patients, is a plus. A successful nurse in this unit will demonstrate teamwork, adaptability, and a commitment to enhancing patient experience scores.

For this role, a driver's license is required for verification purposes regarding distance from the facility. Candidates are expected to maintain professionalism as per policies regarding artificial nails. Orientation includes a pass/fail exam based on skills learned, with a requirement to achieve a score of 90% or higher.
