Position Overview

The CNC Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising daily machining operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant manufacture of products that meet customer, engineering, and regulatory requirements. This position oversees personnel, equipment, production schedules, and quality while ensuring compliance with the organization's AS9100D Quality Management System (QMS).

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of CNC machinists, setup technicians, and machine operators
• Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining product quality and on-time delivery
• Assign work based on production priorities, employee qualifications, and machine availability
• Monitor workflow and remove obstacles affecting production efficiency
• Ensure work is performed using current revisions of drawings, work instructions, routers, and specifications
• Coordinate machine setups and changeovers to minimize downtime
• Ensure proper tooling, fixtures, gauges, and measuring equipment are available and maintained
• Review completed work for conformance before transfer to the next operation
• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and Production Planning to resolve manufacturing issues
• Support new product introductions and process improvements
• Train and mentor employees in machining techniques, quality requirements, and safe work practices
• Promote Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment using 5S principles

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required; technical training in CNC machining or manufacturing preferred; Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology is a plus

Experience:

• 5+ years of CNC machining experience
• 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role
• Aerospace manufacturing experience preferred
• Experience in an AS9100 or ISO 9001 certified environment preferred

Technical Skills

• CNC milling and turning operations; G-code fundamentals
• Blueprint reading, GD&T interpretation
• Tooling, workholding systems, and cutting tool selection
• Precision measuring instruments and Statistical Process Control (SPC)
• Lean Manufacturing principles and Root Cause Analysis
• ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications
• Leadership, communication, and conflict resolution

Performance Measures

• On-time delivery and production efficiency
• Machine utilization and first-pass yield
• Scrap and rework rates
• Customer quality performance and audit results
• Safety performance and training completion
• Achievement of departmental goals

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment with exposure to CNC machinery, noise, metal chips, coolants, compressed air, and forklifts. PPE is required at all times in production areas. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
