The ideal candidate brings a balanced blend of strategic vision and practical expertise, with a clear understanding of how AI can enhance the developer experience, improve delivery speed, and elevate overall solution quality. This individual will serve as a critical link between business and technology, translating complex AI concepts into actionable strategies and architecture decisions that align with enterprise priorities, value drivers, governance expectations, and risk management standards. Additional Information The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Chicago, IL is $140k - $160k/year & benefits (see below). The Role Responsibilities Act as a trusted advisor to business and technology stakeholders on generative AI, machine learning, and enterprise AI architecture. Shape and influence the enterprise AI strategy, including reference architectures, standards, design patterns, and roadmaps. Drive the responsible expansion of AI initiatives, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, governed, and aligned to business outcomes. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness through intelligent automation, workflow optimization, and AI-enabled solution design. Maintain awareness of emerging AI/ML technologies, model providers, market trends, tooling, and evolving best practices. Partner with application development teams to identify how AI can improve developer productivity, enhance the software delivery lifecycle, and strengthen solution quality. Collaborate with business and technology leaders to ensure AI use cases and architecture decisions are aligned with strategic objectives and operating models. Lead architecture reviews for AI initiatives and support AI governance through Architecture Review Boards and other oversight forums. Define and enforce guardrails for responsible AI adoption, including security, privacy, explainability, compliance, governance, and model risk controls. Assess model platforms, orchestration frameworks, vector databases, and cloud-native AI services, balancing capabilities against enterprise constraints and requirements. Contribute to proof-of-concepts, pilots, prototypes, and demonstration applications to validate architecture decisions and new capabilities. Promote and guide adoption of MLOps, LLMOps, and CI/CD practices for AI-enabled and agentic applications. Establish and advocate for metrics that measure AI value realization, including ROI, productivity improvements, operational efficiency, and risk reduction. Requirements You are: Significant experience in generative AI, machine learning, and enterprise-scale AI/ML solutions, ideally within regulated environments. Strong foundation in enterprise architecture with the ability to align AI strategies and technical solutions to business priorities. Deep knowledge of AI governance, risk management, regulatory expectations, and implementation of compliant controls. Demonstrated success driving AI adoption across cross-functional teams in complex enterprise settings. Familiarity with AI architecture frameworks, MLOps practices, and CI/CD approaches for AI and agentic systems. Strong expertise in Azure AI Foundry, with working knowledge of AWS generative AI and machine learning services. Solid understanding of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) patterns and advanced prompt engineering methods. Ability to evaluate model providers and architecture choices based on cost, latency, privacy, explainability, compliance, and enterprise fit. Experience with vector database and retrieval optimization, including platforms such as PostgreSQL, Databricks, and Azure AI Search. Ability to distinguish when AI is the appropriate solution compared with traditional automation, and to define measurable value and return on investment. Excellent communication, facilitation, and consulting skills, including the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Qualifications Master’s degree or PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Professional certifications in AI, machine learning, cloud architecture, or enterprise architecture. Advanced Microsoft Azure cloud certification required. Experience with AI governance, compliance, and regulatory requirements, preferably within financial services or another highly regulated industry.
