Job Summary Working closely with the Closing Manager, the Assistant Closing Manager is responsible for providing leadership and direction within the club and driving club performance. Specifically, he or she oversees, when on duty as Manager on Duty (MOD), the recovery, utility, and perishable departments (produce, meat, bakery, deli, dairy/freeze) as well as overnight prep to ensure all areas are clean, stocked, and ready for morning open. In addition to team leadership, the manager is accountable for maintaining policies and procedures, delivering a positive service experience to members, maintaining Grand Opening Look Daily (GOLD) club conditions, and ensuring audit compliance. The Assistant Closing Manager also serves as MOD as needed, taking full responsibility for club operations, team leadership, and member engagement during assigned shifts. A valid ServSafe Food Safety certification is required and must be maintained in good standing. In Florida, the role must obtain a qualifier certification through the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for retail propane oversight. The holder must complete yearly certification for a forklift license, taken online with video. BJ's covers applicable costs and training. Monitor engagement levels - observe member engagement and department execution to ensure a premium shopping experience. Resolve concerns - support the team in resolving member issues and delivering satisfaction. Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities Own end-of-day execution - oversee recovery, utility, and perishable departments, and overnight prep to ensure areas are prepared for morning open. Lead by presence - actively walk the floor during closing hours, observe execution, engage with members, and support team performance. Maintain GOLD standards through closing - guarantee a GAA and Fast, Friendly, Full, Fresh, Clean experience until the last member exits. Ensure full-functioning departments - validate that registers remain open, perishable stations are attended, and all service areas are operational through the final transaction. Support member issue resolution - personally resolve or appropriately pursue member concerns during closing to ensure satisfaction and timely service recovery. Drive in-stock and freshness - monitor evening inventory levels, product rotation, culling, and merchandising execution, focusing on perishable departments. Enforce sanitation standards - confirm completion of daily cleaning checklists, sweep logs, waste pulls, and safety protocols. Lead recovery team productivity - coach recovery and utility clerks to ensure efficient task execution and appropriate zone coverage during closing. Utilize tools effectively - leverage Hot List, NAFS, electronic reports, incorrect price sign reports, pallet tag usage, productivity dashboards, and department-level reporting to validate execution and drive efficiency. Support audit readiness - ensure all sanitation, cold chain, and safety checklists are completed daily and documentation is fully compliant with audit standards. Maintain equipment functionality - identify and address equipment issues with compactors, refrigeration units, and cleaning equipment to avoid disruptions. Coach onboarding and certifications - reinforce ServSafe, PPE compliance, and department-specific training during onboarding and ongoing development of team members. Drive improvement in under-performing areas - actively support bottom-quartile departments through action plans and daily execution standards to close performance gaps. Collaborate cross-functionally - partner with the Closing Manager, Assistant Club Managers, Club Manager, and Department Leads to improve closing routines and enhance the overall member experience. Conduct quality and date checks - regularly inspect products for expiration dates and condition, removing damaged or outdated items to uphold food safety standards. Utilize BJ's MY WORK system - execute assigned tasks and ensure compliance with company initiatives and product liability protocols. Perform other duties as assigned - provide operational support outside primary scope as directed by club leadership. Operate safely and efficiently - follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure compliance and effective equipment use. Maintain regular, predictable full attendance - demonstrate consistent presence as an essential function of the role to support execution and leadership coverage. Qualifications 2 years of experience in retail, supermarket, or warehouse perishable operations preferred. Experience in managing inventory turnover and waste reduction strategies. ServSafe certification required. High school diploma required; college degree preferred. Basic computer proficiency (MS Word, Excel, Email) required. Open shift availability required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Job Conditions Frequent movement on hard surfaces and occasional bending, pulling, and reaching. Regular lifting of up to 30 pounds; occasional heavier lifting with assistance. Exposure to temperature extremes and loud noises within perishable areas. Potential exposure to cleaning agents. Must maintain all training and required certifications. Pay Range In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position.
