Police Recruit

The City of Covina is seeking individuals with an interest in serving the Covina Community with a career in law enforcement. The Police Recruit is an entry level, non-safety position that will participate in initial departmental training and orientation programs, including attending a Police Academy. The Police Recruit is the police trainee classification designed specifically and solely for the purpose of employing police officer candidates in a non-sworn status during the initial basic police officer academy training. Incumbents will be afforded the opportunity to be appointed to and sworn in as a probationary entry-level police officer with full police authority upon successful and satisfactory completion of academy training. Candidates hired as Police Recruits will be expected to complete an 18-month probationary period from the time of hire.

The selection process will include, but not limited to the following components: CA P.O.S.T. Physical Agility Test (Pass/Fail)**, CA P.O.S.T. PELLET B Written Exam (Pass/Fail), Oral Board Interview (100% of Total Score). Applicants who have taken the CA P.O.S.T. PELLET B exam within the last 12 months and have a current T-Score of 42 or higher do not have to take the exam again. T-Scores must be attached to your application for consideration at the time of application submission. Candidates must be specific and complete in describing their qualifications for this position. Failure to state all pertinent information may lead to elimination from consideration. Stating "See Resume" is not an acceptable substitute for a complete application. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check (to include a conviction record) and pass a post-offer pre-employment medical and psychological examinations (which may include a drug/alcohol screening). The City of Covina utilizes E-Verify and new employees must provide documentation to establish both identity and work authorization.
