Job Description Summary MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina. The Certified Medical Assistant performs multi‑skilled activities to support a decentralized patient‑centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Position Details Entity: MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) Worker Type: Employee Worker Sub‑Type: Regular Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Responsibilities The Certified Medical Assistant reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager, interviews patients, measures vital signs (pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), records or inputs information into patients’ medical records, and prepares treatment rooms for examinations. Requires basic computer skills, annual competency maintenance, and the ability to understand and implement detailed instructions in therapeutic procedures. Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Minimum Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred. Required Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations Must be certified through AMT, AAMA, NHA, or MedCA as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or NAHP. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either an AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Includes examples such as transferring a 100‑lb patient requiring 50 lbs. of force, needing assistance for every 100 additional pounds, pushing a 400‑lb patient in a wheelchair on carpet with 20 lbs. of force, pushing a stretcher with one hand for 25 lbs. of force. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision (corrected), discern objects at close and distant ranges, match color discrimination, depth perception, hearing acuity (corrected), frequent fine motor movements, manage stressful situations, work rotating shifts, overtime, latex‑safe environment, tactile and olfactory sensory functions, and qualify for respirator use as required.
