Responsibilities

Join State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Companya proud Fortune 50 leader with a legacy of excellence since 1922as we seek a dynamic and motivated attorney to lead the companys government relations across multiple states. This State Counsel position is based in our Sacramento, CA Legislative/Regulatory office, part of the Corporate Law Division of State Farms Law Department.

  • Leadership in Action: Represent State Farm before regulators, guide responses to examinations, and support business units with rate filings and complaints your legal expertise will be central to our success.

Qualifications

What Were Looking For:

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school with outstanding academic credentials.
  • Active law license in at least one state and in good standing with the bar.
  • Ability to obtain permission to practice law in California as a Registered In-House Counsel (RIHC) if not already licensed in California.
  • Preferred candidate would have a minimum 5 years experience in one or more of the following:
    • government relations
    • legislative drafting/advocacy
    • regulatory law
  • A proactive, preventative approach to lawyering, with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality legal advice.
  • Demonstrated agility in learning new areas and a passion for continuous professional growth.
  • Proven team player who excels in collaborating with diverse stakeholders in complex, fast-paced environments.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. immediately; sponsorship is not available.


Additional Details:

  • This Sacramento-based role requires periodic travel to assigned states and occasionally to Bloomington, IL.
  • Outside legal practice is not permitted, except authorized pro bono work. New hires must cease all outside legal work prior to joining.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours as needed given workload and nature of the responsibilities.
  • Relocation benefits may be available depending on eligibility and position.

  • Potential starting salary range: $151,000.00 - $220,000.00
    • Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience
    • High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience
  • Potential yearly incentive pay up to 30% of base salary
