We have a culture of growth and achievement powered by innovation, supported by purpose and joy.Big-D Construction is looking for a Preconstruction Manager to join our team of professionals based in Salt Lake City, UT.Experience/Training:Experience leading preconstruction efforts on commercial construction projects from concept through GMP or bidStrong understanding of estimating, scheduling, and design coordinationAbility to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneouslyProven ability to communicate effectively with clients, design teams, and internal stakeholdersAbility to identify, communicate, and mitigate project risks earlyDuties, Responsibilities and Expectations:(other duties may be assigned to meet business needs)Leadership & StrategyLead preconstruction teams, establishing clear expectations, accountability, and project strategy aligned with client goals.Planning & ExecutionPlan and manage preconstruction efforts, including team coordination, milestone tracking, and deliverable reviews.Schedule ManagementDevelop and manage project schedules, ensuring alignment across design, estimating, procurement, and construction milestones.Cost & Estimating OversightOversee estimating efforts, ensuring accurate pricing, clear assumptions, and alignment between design, scope, and budget.Review estimates and clarifications to ensure continuity from concept through GMP or bid.Subcontractor EngagementSupport subcontractor engagement, including outreach, prequalification, scope alignment, and bid participation.Design ManagementServe as primary liaison with the design team, guiding design development, cost alignment, and constructability.Identify risks and drive solutions related to design, site conditions, and scope gaps.Client LeadershipAct as primary client contact during preconstruction, leading meetings, communicating progress, and building strong relationships.Support business development efforts by articulating project value and strategy to clients.Contracts & Early Project CoordinationSupport contract development and ensure preconstruction efforts align with project agreements.Coordinate with stakeholders on permitting, utilities, and early project requirements.DeliverablesLead development and delivery of key preconstruction deliverables, including estimates, schedules, and GMP documents.Construction Team IntegrationCollaborate with construction teams to ensure plans are practical, safe, and aligned with project execution.Team DevelopmentMentor and develop preconstruction and estimating team members.Project Transition & SupportSupport project turnover and remain engaged to help resolve risks during construction.Key Outcomes & DeliverablesIn this role, success is defined by your ability to lead projects and teams to predictable, high-quality outcomes while building strong client relationships.Projects consistently align with client expectationsMinimal surprises related to cost, schedule, or scope as projects progress from concept through GMP.Estimates and deliverables are clear, accurate, and defensibleAssumptions are well communicated, risks are identified early, and scope gaps are minimized.The design stays aligned with budget and constructabilityYou actively influence design decisions to maintain cost and schedule targets.Teams are coordinated and accountableTeam members understand expectations and consistently meet deadlines with high-quality output.Clients trust you as the preconstruction leaderYou effectively communicate the story of the project and build confidence through proactive communication.Subcontractor engagement is strong and competitiveThe right trade partners are involved early, and scopes are well defined for bidding.Projects transition cleanly into constructionThe construction team receives a complete, coordinated, and well-understood set of documents and assumptions.Benefits:Free Medical & Dental Insurance premiumsHSA (Health Savings Account) with employer contribution401k with MatchLong-Term & Short-Term DisabilityLife InsuranceSupplemental BenefitsPTO & Paid Holidays Vehicle Allowance Additional Job Information:Interested applicants must submit their resume for consideration using our applicant tracking system.
