The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5, with occasional 1:6. The unit primarily handles medical cases, with some surgical overflow. Common patient diagnoses include respiratory, gastrointestinal, and behavioral health issues. Patients from the emergency room may be admitted to work on discharge planning. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Common titratable drips include heparin and morphine. There is a Charge Nurse on each shift who rarely takes patients, only if needed. The unit has nurse aides and patient care techs available at a ratio of 1:8. Respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP, managed by respiratory therapists. RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips. Virtual Tele techs assist with monitoring. Scheduling will be done by the scheduler with no block scheduling. There is a requirement to work 5 weekends in a 6-week period. Holiday shifts may be required based on need. Floating to similar units in the system may be necessary. Scrub color is flexible as long as it is clean and professional. A total of 3 days of general orientation will include EPIC training. Online modules must be completed prior to assignment start. Two shifts on the unit with a preceptor will be part of the onboarding process. Candidates must be outside a specific radius to be eligible for this position.
