Minimum Starting Salary- $17.25 per hour

Job Title: Payroll Clerk Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt

Reports to: Director of Payroll Pay Grade: AS230/240 days Dept./School: Payroll/Central Administration Date Revised: Fall 2026

Primary Purpose

Perform the clerical duties necessary to support the Payroll Department. Works under the direction of the Payroll Manager.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Certification

• High school diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/Skills/Experience

• One-year payroll/accounting experience, or other equivalent experience or background school district experience is preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency skills in keyboarding and file maintenance and other computer applications

Major Responsibilities and Duties

• Provide prompt and courteous customer service to district employees within various district departments, regarding payroll-related questions. When necessary, forward employees to the appropriate member of the Payroll Department.
• Receive, stamp, and distribute all incoming mail. Mail outgoing documents in a timely manner.
• Scan payroll documents and attach supporting documents to Skyward and/or the network payroll drive.
• Update address changes in Skyward for those current employees/former employees who do not have access to the system.
• Enter Payroll Department requisitions and budget transfers.
• Process employment verification forms.
• Shred payroll documents as needed.
• Maintain supplies and payroll storeroom.
• Ensure accurate and timely processing of employee W4s and direct deposit information.
• Assist other department personnel as needed.
• Oversee and organize W-2 printing.
• Maintain confidentiality of information.
• Other duties as assigned by the Payroll Manager or Director of Payroll.

• Standard office equipment including personal computer, scanner, shredder and peripherals
• Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
• Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
• Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
• May work prolonged or irregular hours
• Work with frequent interruptions to meet established deadlines; maintain emotional control under stress
