Ophthalmic Scribe

Scribes are responsible for assisting the physicians by recording all findings during the examination in the electronic patient record. Scribes complete encounter forms, glasses/medication prescription forms and recall information. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Assist physicians with patients Document the physician findings of the examination within the patient record Records billing information of the exam to ensure proper financial processing Escorts patients to patient reception area; may be required to assist patients with walking, by pushing wheelchairs, lifting, and transferring Accurately fill out and complete all information during the exam (route slip, consent forms, cataract data sheets, glasses prescriptions, medication prescription forms, etc.) Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other employees throughout the Clinic Ensure provider’s exam rooms are stocked with necessary items In the event there is no Lead Scribe, maintain a peer review audit process that identifies employee’s strengths and weakness maintained thru data entry logs and report generating Perform intraocular pressures Stay current on documentation and coding requirements through continuing education/training All other duties as assigned Work Relationship and Scope: The Scribe works closely with physicians, patients, medical floor staff, coworkers Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: High school diploma Certification as a medical assistant is desired; 1-2 years of healthcare experience may be substituted in lieu of certification Understanding of medical terminology Demonstrates knowledge of proper, safe, efficient usage of medical equipment Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products Ability to work in a fast-paced medical facility while adhering to HIPAA compliance regulations Work Conditions: Eye Clinic of Wisconsin has eight locations. While staff will be assigned to a “home” location, travel to satellites is a requirement of the position. Hours of work will be dependent on the needs of the Clinic. Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting (30 pounds), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs is required.
