Location: Macon, GA
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 3:00 AM – 11:00 AM (Rotating holidays as needed)
Employment Type: Full-Time

We are seeking a motivated Histotechnician to join a fast-paced Anatomic Pathology team. This position is ideal for candidates who thrive in a high-volume environment, enjoy working independently, and are eager to expand their technical skills. The Histotechnician is responsible for preparing high-quality tissue specimens for microscopic examination by performing embedding, microtomy, routine and special staining, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and other histological procedures under established laboratory protocols.

This role offers the opportunity to gain experience across multiple areas of histology while maintaining quality standards, regulatory compliance, and excellent patient care.

• Prepare, embed, section, and stain surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for microscopic examination.
• Perform paraffin embedding, microtomy, routine H&E staining, special stains, and immunohistochemistry (IHC).
• Prepare frozen sections from surgical and autopsy specimens.
• Perform and evaluate routine histological procedures while maintaining high-quality standards.
• Assist pathologists with gross examination of surgical specimens and specimen collection as needed.
• Prepare slides for immunoperoxidase and other specialized staining procedures.
• Maintain accurate documentation for tissue blocks, slides, stains, and specimen records.
• File and maintain paraffin blocks and microscope slides according to laboratory procedures.
• Participate in quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) activities for histology procedures.
• Maintain chemical inventory, prepare laboratory solutions and stains, and follow all safety protocols.
• Operate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on histology equipment.
• Utilize the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for specimen tracking and documentation.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory work environment.
• Participate in continuing education and competency development programs.
• Support positive teamwork and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnology program or equivalent training.

• Histologic Technician (HT) certification by the ASCP Board of Certification or eligibility required.
• Candidates must obtain ASCP certification within six months of hire if not already certified.

• Experience performing histology procedures preferred.
• Experience with tissue embedding, microtomy, staining, and specimen preparation.
• Ability to work independently in a high-volume laboratory environment.

• ASCP Histologic Technician (HT) certification strongly preferred.
• Experience performing:
  • Tissue embedding
  • Microtomy
  • Routine H&E staining
  • Special stains
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
• Experience with frozen section preparation.
• Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
• Experience operating and maintaining histology equipment, including:
  • Tissue processors
  • Microtomes
  • Automated stainers
  • Ventana Ultra IHC platform (preferred)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize workload and work independently in a fast-paced setting.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

• Strong knowledge of histological techniques and tissue preparation.
• Proficiency in embedding, sectioning, staining, and slide preparation.
• Understanding of quality assurance and quality control procedures.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and chemical handling.
• Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
• Ability to maintain accurate documentation and specimen records.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining accuracy.
