Overview

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) to support correctional healthcare operations within a fast-paced clinical environment serving the adult incarcerated population. This role requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to provide patient-centered care while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

The ideal candidate will have experience in corrections, behavioral health, emergency care, or other high-acuity environments. Due to the high volume of behavioral health patients, experience with de-escalation techniques, psychiatric care, or mental health support is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care in accordance with the Texas Nursing Practice Act, established protocols, and clinical standards
• Perform patient assessments, nursing evaluations, and ongoing monitoring of patient conditions
• Administer medications, including insulin and other prescribed treatments
• Conduct withdrawal assessments including COWS and CIWA protocols
• Complete medication passes and respond to healthcare requests
• Perform wound care, clinic visits, ECGs, and routine patient rounding
• Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs
• Collaborate with physicians, behavioral health professionals, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
• Document patient care accurately within electronic medical record systems
• Exercise sound clinical judgment and respond appropriately to emergency situations
• Support continuity of care while ensuring patient safety and compliance with healthcare standards

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the State of Texas or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification required
• Previous correctional nursing, behavioral health, emergency department, or acute care experience minimum 2 years
• Experience with de-escalation techniques and mental health patient populations strongly preferred
• Strong assessment, triage, and critical thinking skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced clinical environment
• Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
• Basic computer proficiency and EMR experience required

Preferred Experience

• Behavioral health or psychiatric nursing experience
• Withdrawal management experience (COWS/CIWA)
• Experience managing high-volume patient populations
• Emergency response and crisis intervention experience
