Primary City/State: Mesa, Arizona Department Name: Med/Surg Float-Hosp Work Shift: Day Job Category: Nursing Overview As a Medical/Surgical Float Registered Nurse RN you will provide patient care throughout the facility, including Medical Surgical, PCU, and Observation units. Schedule Full Time Day Shift, 3 12-hour shifts per week, 7:00am-7:30pm. Weekend and holiday rotation required. The position offers an 18% night shift differential and a flat rate \$3/hour weekend shift differential. Self‑scheduling tools are available for shift and weekend coverage. Key Responsibilities Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs. Review patient history, physical exam, and diagnostic data; report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers. Formulate a plan of care and discharge plan based on assessment data. Set realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with the patient/family and multidisciplinary team. Revise the plan as patient status changes. Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health‑care team activities. Provide care in accordance with physician orders, the nursing plan, and regulatory requirements. Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching, and revise the care plan as needed. Document progress toward goals in a legible, timely manner, reflecting objective/subjective data, interventions, and patient response. Provide care based on best evidence; participate in research and quality improvement activities. Engage in shared leadership, education, orientation, and precepting to support staff development. Contribute to society through activities that promote excellent patient outcomes. Participate in professional organizations and national nursing quality indicators as appropriate. Supervise staff and workflow when required, providing direction to licensed and non‑licensed personnel to ensure quality care and services. Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to facilitate patient care and support spiritual needs. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly Reporting: None Matrix or Indirect Reporting: Provides direction and supervision to licensed and non‑licensed personnel to maintain quality care and services. Type of Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A Physical Demands Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently. Capable of lifting up to 75 pounds. Requires adequate hearing, visual acuity, eye‑hand coordination, and fine motor skills. Must use proper body mechanics for patient ambulation and transfer. Requires standard precautions due to potential exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Must communicate effectively in person or over the telephone; periodic use of a personal computer may be required. Minimum Qualifications Current, valid RN license in the state of practice (or temporary/interim/compact license). BLS certification required; additional certifications may be required based on area of practice. Minimum of one year experience as an RN in an acute care hospital setting (same specialty), with experience in an acute care setting within the past 12 months. For travel acute care positions, one year RN experience in an acute care hospital or physician practice is required. Home health candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, operate a personal vehicle, and maintain required auto insurance. Behavioral health candidates must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit, maintained throughout employment. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred. Professional nursing certification preferred. Additional related education or experience preferred.
