Ensures the effective use of information and empowers students to be critical thinkers, readers, skillful researchers, effective communicators, and ethical users of information. Collaborates with classroom educators to design and implement lessons and units of instruction and assesses student learning and instructional effectiveness to ensure essential skills integration. Provides the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and the school district, and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program. Must complete DCSD required training for new library staff MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING: - A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with teaching certification - A graduate degree earned at a college or university whose program is recognized by appropriate bodies such as The American Library Association (ALA), the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), or state education agencies (CDE) SUPERVISORY DUTIES: - Supervises library assistant(s), community volunteers, and student aides ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: - Mostly clean and comfortable; some noise ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to bend and lift up to 40 lbs - Frequent sitting & standing## Position Specific Information (if Applicable):## Responsibilities:Loan library materials such as books, textbooks, and other resources to students, staff, and other DCSD patronsEmpowers all members of the learning community to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, curators, and ethical users of informationManages the staff, budget, and the physical and virtual spaces of the school librarySchedule and support activities for the library program which may include author days, reading promotions and incentives, and school-wide literacy activitiesModels and develops a commitment to respect equity, diversity, and inclusion in collection development and within the learning communityManage and catalog materials using resource management software (Destiny)Supports learners’ success by guiding them to read for understanding, breadth, and pleasureProcess returned materials such as books, textbooks, and other resourcesCollaborates and co-teaches with classroom educators to establish learning objectives and assessment strategies to develop individual and group inquiry-based learning experiencesEvaluates, introduces, and models emerging technologies for the learning community, and uses technology tools to supplement school resourcesPerform necessary record-keeping for all library resources, including a full inventory of all resources no less than every two yearsSupports learners as they make meaning for themselves to create new knowledge by collecting, organizing, and sharing resources of personal relevanceFollow the DCSD media policy and board policies pertaining to the libraryEmpowers learners to work with each other in successful collaborations and to constructively assess their own work and the work of their peersOrganize and reshelve returned itemsDevelops and maintains a teaching and learning environment that is fun, inviting, safe, flexible, collaborative, inclusive, equitable, and conducive to learningParticipates as an active leader of the local and global learning community, building relationships with organizations and stakeholdersManage training, scheduling, and supervising of student assistants/aides and community volunteers in the LMCAddresses broader educational issues with other individuals in the building, at the district level, and at the professional association levelPerform routine tasks such as answering phone calls, maintain a clean and organized library environment, and other necessary tasksModels and champions digital citizenship and safety and adherence to copyright and fair use requirementsManage loans between DCSD school libraries (ILL loans)Champions equity, access, and intellectual freedom for users within the physical space and beyond, including providing 24/7 access to the online library catalog; digital and audio books; and various digital information resourcesAttend District trainings pertaining to the library: Destiny, databases and digital resources, collection development, weeding, purchasing, etc.Perform other library related duties as assigned or requestedHelp plan and participate in special library events (district-wide events and school specific events)Teaches all members of the learning community to engage with and use information in a global societyMaintain and repair library materialsFosters exploration, discovery, creation, and innovation in a growth mindset## Certifications:Teaching License - School Librarian or Teacher Librarian Endorsement - Colorado Department of Education## Education:Bachelor's Degree: Curriculum and Instruction (Required), Bachelor's Degree: Library Science (Required)## Position Type:Regular## Primary Location:Cresthill Middle School## One Year Only (Yes or No):No## Scheduled Hours Per Week:40## Full-Time Equivalent (FTE):1.00## Approx Scheduled Days Per Year:185 Work Days## Full Salary Range:$51,914.00 USD - $108,643.00 USD Annual## Position Salary Schedule Eligibility:GeneralLicensed position salaries are set based on one of three salary schedules; *General, Hard to Hire, and Specialist/Extremely Hard to Hire.* DCSD will award up to 7 years of previous licensed teaching experience at the time of hire.
