Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or tenured Associate Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Biology in the field of Virology . We seek candidates to join IU’s outstanding Microbiology research program to lead research in the areas of Cellular Responses to Virus Infection, Cell Biology of Virus Infection, and Evolution of Emerging Viruses but other areas of virology will be considered.

We encourage applications from scholars who apply interdisciplinary perspectives and share important research overlap with current IUB scholars, while also offering new dimensions that will expand and strengthen virology research at IUB . Researchers have access to state-of-the-art facilities for genomics and bioinformatics, light and electron microscopy, flow cytometry, proteomic analysis, physical biochemistry analytical instrumentation, and crystallography.

This 10‐month appointment would ideally start August 1, 2027 , but start date is negotiable.

Responsibilities: Tenure-track faculty in the Biology department at Indiana University Bloomington are expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of the department by developing and/or maintaining a robust research portfolio including pursuing and obtaining major extramural research funding to conduct cutting-edge research as a principal investigator, teaching undergraduate and graduate in the classroom,  mentoring graduate students in our graduate programs, participating in service at the University and actively engaging with their professional community. Indiana University bases its tenure and promotion recommendations on performance in research, teaching, and service.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants should possess a doctoral degree and demonstrate a strong record of scholarly achievement appropriate to the level of appointment.

• Candidates applying at the Assistant Professor level should provide evidence of past and current research productivity through first- or corresponding-author peer-reviewed publications, presentations of research at relevant scientific or professional conferences, and other indicators of scholarly impact. Candidates should also demonstrate strong potential to secure external research funding.
• Candidates seeking appointment at the  Associate Professor level must demonstrate a sustained record of scholarly achievement commensurate with a tenured appointment. This should include a record of extramurally funded research as principal investigator, an established body of corresponding-author publications, evidence of visibility and engagement within the broader scholarly community, and experience leading substantial research initiatives.

The position is based in the Department of Biology , a large, unified department within the College of Arts and Sciences.
