Non-Clinical - Revenue Cycle - Medical Coder

Job Description

Job Summary:

Seeking an experienced Medical Coder to accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes within an acute care setting. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical knowledge, proficient computer skills, and relevant industry certifications to ensure precise billing and documentation compliance.

Responsibilities:

• Review medical records and assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and other procedure codes.
• Ensure coding accuracy in accordance with billing guidelines, payor requirements, and federal regulations.
• Research coding-related issues and collaborate with clinical staff to resolve discrepancies.
• Train and mentor junior coders to enhance departmental performance.
• Maintain updated knowledge of coding guidelines, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
• Utilize 3M/HDS coding applications to streamline and improve coding processes.

Qualifications:

• Possess a CCS credential and demonstrate proficiency with 3M/HDS coding software.
• Hold a minimum of three years' experience in medical coding within an acute care environment.
• Have thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and payor/federal billing guidelines.
• Exhibit strong research skills and attention to detail in coding accuracy.
• Possess high school diploma or GED; applicable certifications such as AHIMA, RHIA, RHIT, or CCP are preferred.
• Demonstrate familiarity with outpatient and emergency department coding procedures.
