About the Role:

We are seeking a motivated Product Configuration & Controls Engineer to join our engineering team. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer with a strong automation or controls background who wants to expand into electrical power distribution, medium-voltage equipment, product configuration, mechanical/electrical design, and production support.

This position will work closely with Engineering, R&D, and Product Management to support the configuration of standard and custom equipment sections, develop drawing libraries, assist with electrical and mechanical layouts, and gain hands-on experience with control systems and power distribution equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Configure medium-voltage and low-voltage equipment sections using internal tools, manufacturer resources, and engineering standards.
  • Support product configuration for Schneider Electric, Siemens, ABB, and other medium-voltage equipment platforms.
  • Assist with both mechanical and electrical configuration of equipment sections, including layouts, device placement, control components, and drawing package preparation.
  • Pull, review, organize, and maintain drawings needed for engineering, production, and sales support.
  • Help develop and maintain standard drawing libraries, configuration templates, equipment layouts, and repeatable design packages.
  • Support the development of standard engineering content for switchgear, switchboards, control compartments, metering sections, relay panels, and automation-related assemblies.
  • Learn Maverick Power’s electrical controls standards and assist with controls design, wiring concepts, PLC/HMI integration, and control system troubleshooting.
  • Develop and maintain product-specific HMI screens, navigation standards, alarm/status displays, metering views, and diagnostic pages for Maverick Power products.
  • Collaborate with the Automation Team in the development of EPMS/SCADA systems, including system architecture, tag structures, communication maps, data visualization, alarming, and integration of relays, meters, PLCs, and gateways.
  • Support development and validation of embedded control logic for automatic transfer and auto-throw-over schemes, including sequences of operation, permissives, interlocks, alarms, and fail-safe conditions.
  • Assist with PLC, relay, gateway, and HMI configuration standards that support repeatable product offerings and project-specific customer requirements.
  • Develop reusable automation content, including HMI templates, tag databases, I/O lists, control narratives, points lists, test procedures, and standard logic blocks.
  • Support functional testing, factory acceptance testing, and troubleshooting of automation, controls, EPMS/SCADA, and communication systems integrated into power distribution equipment.
  • Work with production teams to gain hands-on experience with equipment assembly, wiring, testing, troubleshooting, and quality verification.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, R&D, Production, and Quality to resolve design, configuration, and manufacturability issues.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and corrective action activities related to engineering, production, or field issues.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to standardization, engineering efficiency, drawing accuracy, and production readiness.
  • Assist with testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of control systems and power distribution equipment as needed.
  • Develop working knowledge of applicable electrical equipment standards, including UL, NEC, NEMA, ANSI/IEEE, and customer specifications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, Controls, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience with industrial automation, controls, PLCs, HMI systems, commissioning, or troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar drafting/design software.
  • Strong technical aptitude with interest in electrical power distribution equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, mechanical layouts, schematics, wiring diagrams, or control drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams including engineering, production, quality, and operations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to document technical information clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, Studio 5000, RSLogix, ladder logic, or industrial control platforms.
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms such as Ignition or similar visualization systems.
  • Exposure to industrial networking, control panels, system commissioning, or automation troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting high-throughput or mission-critical equipment environments.
  • Knowledge of SQL, C#, Java, LabVIEW, or other programming/software tools.
  • Familiarity with electrical power distribution equipment, switchgear, switchboards, MCCs, relays, meters, or protection/control systems.
  • OSHA 30 certification or similar safety training.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

May work in various settings at the Maverick Power facilities, in offices, in multiple shops, and in commercial buildings.
