Qualifications

• Graduate of an ultrasonography program or completion of an appropriate education pathway.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Ultrasonography, Radiology, Biological Sciences, or a relevant health science field.
• Registry eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers (ARDMS), American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Registry eligible new graduate of a sonography or radiology program. Preferred: 1 year of clinical experience as a registered sonographer.

Responsibilities

• Assist in diagnosis and treatment by producing diagnostic ultrasound images of various organs and structures.
• Perform biopsies and other interventional ultrasound procedures; be on call with a 45‑minute response time for urgent procedures.
• Give clear instructions to patients and their families regarding treatment.
• Involve family or guardians in assessment, initial treatment, and ongoing care of the patient.
• Identify physical limitations of patients and deploy appropriate interventions.
• Recognize and respond to patients or families with behavioral health concerns.
• Interpret population‑related data and plan care appropriately.
• Respond to cultural or religious norms while ensuring appropriate care.
• Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures in accordance with established protocols.
• Review patient histories and requests for services, and explain procedures to patients.
• Select and operate complex ultrasound equipment; regulate technical factors for each patient and review studies for diagnostic acceptability.
• Provide routine care in the department, practice aseptic and sterile technique, and administer CPR or other emergency procedures as needed.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure supplies are available.
• Instruct students in methods and procedures.
• Participate in continuing education activities related to diagnostic ultrasound and its subspecialties.
• Perform equipment tests and contribute to the quality control program.
