Develop and prioritize optimization recommendations, including setpoint adjustments, scheduling improvements, and control sequence modifications. Lead recurring service meetings and communicate findings with facilities, operations, Building Automation Systems (BAS), and energy management teams. Building Automation Systems (BAS) HVAC equipment and central plant systems Target Experience Approximately 3–7 years of experience in HVAC systems, facilities engineering, building automation, commissioning, building performance, or energy analytics. Candidates with additional experience will also be considered. Travel as needed Position Summary The Building Performance Engineer provides ongoing HVAC Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD) support for commercial and industrial facilities by translating building analytics into actionable maintenance and optimization improvements. The role partners with Facilities, Operations, Energy Management, and Building Automation teams to identify HVAC performance issues, optimize control strategies, improve occupant comfort, and increase energy efficiency through data-driven decision making. Primary Responsibilities Provide ongoing HVAC Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD) support for assigned facilities. Lead recurring meetings with Facilities, Operations, Energy Management, and BAS teams. Review mechanical drawings, BAS documentation, control sequences, and TAB reports to understand system design intent. Analyze HVAC operational data, trends, alarms, and system behavior to identify performance issues. Develop maintenance recommendations and operational improvements, including: Control sequence optimization Setpoint adjustments Scheduling improvements Create data visualizations to communicate findings and quantify operational and energy impacts. Present technical recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Collaborate with BAS vendors and controls contractors to support troubleshooting and optimization efforts. Support deployment and onboarding of FDD analytics platforms. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related technical discipline. 2+ years of experience in HVAC systems, building operations, commissioning, facilities engineering, or related roles. Strong knowledge of: Airside HVAC systems Building Automation Systems (BAS) HVAC control strategies HVAC sequences of operation Building mechanical systems Experience analyzing HVAC performance data, alarms, operational trends, and system behavior. Ability to independently develop technical recommendations based on building performance data. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Willingness to travel up to 10%. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD) platforms such as Clockworks Analytics, SkySpark, CopperTree, or similar solutions. Experience with Niagara-based or other enterprise Building Automation Systems. Experience reviewing BAS control logic and supporting data-driven troubleshooting. Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). Experience working with BAS vendors, controls contractors, or commissioning teams. Familiarity with energy management, sustainability initiatives, smart buildings, and building performance optimization. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Gathers and reviews data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or government restrictions, required completion date, and construction feasibility. Coordinates with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Prepares bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition. Reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other related costs.
