What You'll Do:

Shift:

• Day shift, Monday-Friday
• Training takes place in Sayre, PA during the first few months of employment

Position Summary:

The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for performing advanced ophthalmic workups, diagnostic testing, and assisting providers in patient care across clinical and surgical settings. This role supports providers during exams, office-based procedures, and operating room cases (minimum of 12 annually).

The position requires strong knowledge of ophthalmic workflows, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while delivering patient-centered care.

Education, Licensure & Certification

All candidates will require:

• High school diploma or equivalent

Consideration will be given to candidates who:

• Have submitted their COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant) application and are awaiting a testing date, or
• Have attempted the COA examination but have not yet achieved a passing score

Experience

• Preferred: 2+ years in ophthalmology or optometry
• Consideration given to candidates with experience in medical or dental settings
• Strong customer service, multitasking, and critical thinking skills are required

Essential Functions

• Obtain and document patient history, chief complaints, and collect clinical information including comprehensive medical, medication, allergy, family and social history for provider review
• Perform ophthalmic testing, diagnostics, and assist in clinical procedures
• Administer medications (e.g., eye drops) per scope of practice
• Accurately document findings in the EMR and scribe provider exams
• Educate patients and assist with informed consent and surgical preparation
• Assist providers with in-office laser procedures and minor surgeries
• Maintain sterilization, cleaning, and inventory of instruments and equipment
• Manage referrals, forms, and co-management tracking
• Monitor provider schedules for accuracy and efficiency and assist with triage of calls/messages

Additional Responsibilities

• Participate in staff training and onboarding
• Attend required meetings and educational sessions
• Provide coverage to all providers across locations as needed
• Support departmental workflow and team collaboration

Pay Range (dependent on experience):

• Uncertified: $18.92 - $29.98/hour
• Certified: $20.85 - $33.04/hour
• O.R. Certified: $22.98 - $36.40/hour
