DSHS DDA Rainier School Assistant Superintendent

As the Assistant Superintendent of Rainier School, you'll hold a key leadership role in support of the mission, vision, values, and the strategic objectives of Rainier School, Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), and DSHS. The Assistant Superintendent oversees the critical departments and provisions of the habilitation services and healthcare for the clients residing at Rainier School. You'll serve as a member of the facility's executive management team in addressing agency policies, overall budget, labor relations and facility operations and is responsible for scheduling, training, and ensuring that assigned areas of responsibility are run professionally and within budget. You will report directly to the Superintendent at Rainier School, a Residential Habilitation Center for intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role will primarily be on location with occasional remote work as needed. Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Some of What You Will Do Manage a diverse workforce of staff in the following departments: Safety/Emergency Management, Duty Office, Dietary, Personal Service Specialist 3, Custodial, Therapies, Residential Information Services, Admission and Placement and Staff Development. Exercise oversight over Program Area Team directors and Attendant Counselor Managers ensuring residential coordinators execute baseline policies effectively across all working shifts. Conduct supervisory meetings with direct reports and provides timely performance feedback including completion of annual performance evaluations. Track leave requests and timesheets. Set direction for each department under supervision. Provide metrics and performance goals as appropriate. Ensure all departments operate in accordance with DSHS and DDA policies and requirements. Oversee and track corrective action plans as necessary. Provide oversight on behalf of the Superintendent to ensure department directors operate within their assigned financial limits. What We’re Looking for A bachelor's degree in human services fields including but not limited to sociology, social work, counseling, psychology, education; or a degree in health sciences field including a degree in nursing; or a degree in public administration, business administration or healthcare administration; This position requires five years of supervisory experience in a 24/7 setting; Equivalent experience and/or education Some of the Required Competencies Include: Knowledge and ability to plan, organize and direct a broad spectrum of support services with skilled professional and technical staff and preprofessional staff. Knowledge of advanced principles of management, budget development and control, federal and state laws pertaining to institutions. Knowledge and understanding of developmental and intellectual disabilities. Ability to plan, organize, and direct work of others; to evaluate various programs, including professionally developed residential, habilitation, educational, and fiscal programs. Communicate effectively orally and in writing with management, peers, facility staff, clients, client families, and the public as required to carry out the assigned duties of the position. Safeguard sensitive and confidential information and documents and maintain confidentiality regarding client information. Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity. Preferred/Desired education and experience: Experience in providing analysis, evaluation, and review services to people with developmental disabilities. Knowledge of principles and methods of management, including budget and program planning, supervision of staff, using multiple modalities of communication. Knowledge of DSHS and DDA programs and services. Knowledge of the State of Washington Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs). Ability to take an active role in strategic planning in a long-term care setting. Ability to effectively hire, assign work, coach, mentor/supervise; and evaluate high level technical staff such as lead psychologist and nursing supervisor. Ability to gather information, analyze data, prepare reports and make budget projections for broad variety of audiences. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to understand, develop, write, implement, and monitor complex policies, procedures, and regulations. Ability to understand and develop program strategies to maintain Federal certification in an ICF/IID Facility. In your first six months on the job, you will be expected to develop rapport with your direct reports and demonstrate strong knowledge of ICF/IID regulations; provide a strategic plan of budget development based on department data. ?
