Olmos Basin Golf Course & San Pedro Par 3 and Driving Range | San Antonio, Texas FULL-TIME LEADERSHIP ROLE MUNICIPAL GOLF IMPACT YEAR-ROUND AGRONOMY The Opportunity The Alamo City Golf Trail (ACGT) is seeking a knowledgeable, driven, and people-focused Golf Course Superintendent to lead maintenance and agronomic operations at Olmos Basin Golf Course and San Pedro Par 3 and Driving Range. This is an opportunity for an accomplished superintendent or rising Assistant Superintendent leader to improve consistency, elevate playing conditions, develop employees, and serve the San Antonio golf community through high-quality, accessible public golf. Position Summary The Superintendent is accountable for the condition, presentation, safety, and efficient operation of the golf course and grounds. The position leads the maintenance team; develops and executes agronomic plans, programs irrigation, manages labor and equipment; manages departmental resources; and works collaboratively with ACGT leadership and golf operations. Continuous Improvement Uses observation, data, peer resources, education, and after-action review to improve agronomic outcomes and operational efficiency. Technical & Operational Expectations Ability to develop and execute an annual agronomic plan for greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunkers, native areas, landscaping, and practice facilities, with emphasis on consistent playability and presentation. Manage warm-season turf and seasonal transitions using appropriate mowing, fertility, plant-protection, cultivation, topdressing, moisture-management, and recovery programs. Oversee irrigation operation, scheduling, diagnostics, repair priorities, water-use efficiency, drainage response, and long-range infrastructure needs and improvements. Implement integrated pest management and ensure compliant pesticide and fertilizer storage, handling, application, recordkeeping, and employee training. Plan labor and workflow using clear assignments, quality-control inspections, productivity expectations, and timely communication of changing course priorities. Coordinate with the ACGT Equipment Manager and assigned technicians on preventive maintenance, reel and blade quality, repair priorities, parts needs, fleet replacement, and safe equipment use. In conjunction with the Director of Agronomy, prepare annual operating and capital budgets; monitor expenses, inventories, purchasing, utilities, and project performance; provide timely forecasts and recommendations. Lead tournament and special-event preparation while balancing golfer access, pace of play, maintenance efficiency, and long-term turf health. Maintain a clean, organized, safe maintenance operation with documented ACGT training, SDS access, PPE compliance, inspections, and corrective action. Assess course infrastructure and recommend phased improvements supported by scope, cost, operational impact, and expected return to the golfer experience. Partnership Constructive working relationships across golf operations, administration, vendors, contractors, industry partners, and the golfing public. Qualifications Associate or bachelor's degree in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, plant science, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience will be considered. Five or more years of progressive golf course maintenance experience, including meaningful supervisory, planning, and budget responsibility; prior Superintendent experience is preferred, but strong Assistant Superintendents ready for advancement are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated knowledge of warm-season turfgrass management, irrigation systems, effluent water management, plant health, equipment quality, and golf course setup. Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator license, or the ability to obtain the required license within an established period after hire. GCSAA membership required upon employment; Class A status, CGCS certification, or active progress toward professional certification is strongly preferred. Valid driver's license and ability to perform the physical and scheduling demands of golf course operations, including early mornings, weekends, holidays, and weather-response needs. Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills and municipal or high-volume public golf experience are valued but not required.
