Pharmacy Technician Supervisor - General Pharmacy - Night Shift

A Brief Overview
The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the daily duties of the Pharmacy Technician staff under the supervision of the Operations Coordinator/Pharmacy Manager. These responsibilities include: coordinating the daily technical functions of the Department, assisting in developing and implementing procedures, quality assurance, interviewing and selection of technical staff, preparation of technician work schedules, technician staffing adjustments and assignments, monitoring of time and attendance for technical staff, overseeing charging and billing, assist in developing and implementation of process improvement and safety initiatives, and oversee training and orientation of new employees. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor also is responsible for performing all the functions of the Technician (1, 2, 3 or 4) staff.
What You Will Do

• For Inpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor, activities include but are not limited to:
  • Triages medication/patient care related and daily operational issues.
  • Scheduling and timekeeping for the Technician staff.
  • Develop and implement department policies and procedures.
  • Provide regular feedback on employee performance and coordinate corrective actions in partnership with department leadership and Human Resources.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation as required by the State Board of Pharmacy, Department, Hospital, and accrediting organizations including but not limited to licensures, on-boarding documents, specific job competencies, Isensix reports.
  • Fill the role of Pharmacy Technician 1-4 in the event of staffing shortages or high work volume.
• For Outpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor, activities include but are not limited to:
  • Utilizes pharmacy systems to process prescriptions, including insurance adjudication and prior authorization submittal, and accurately prepares dangerous drugs for dispensing including counting, pouring, labeling, and performing non-sterile drug compounding and reconstitution.
  • Inventory, replenish, and maintain drug stock which includes automated dispensing cabinets and prescription pick-up kiosks.
  • Packaging and selling dangerous drugs to a patient or patient representative and answering questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Inventory management including par levels, order review and submission, returns processing, recall management, and outdates process oversite.
  • Provides direction to technician staff on day to day operations and performs extensive trainer duties with new hires and/or technician trainees.
  • Extensive buyer duties including purchasing, invoice processing, cost transferring, and specialized ordering.
  • 340B expert including ordering and inventory management, compliance, and cost/product transferring.
  • Participates in new technician candidate interviews and assists with performance appraisals.
  • Provide regular feedback on employee performance and coordinate corrective actions in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation as required by regulatory and accrediting organizations (i.e. State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, CMS).
  • Develop and implement department policies and procedures.
• For Infusion Pharmacy Tech Supervisor, Infusion Technician Essential Functions align with Inpatient Technician Essential Functions.

• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Qualifications:
Education

• High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and
• Graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician program and/or allied program/degree is (Required)

Work Experience

• 5+ years Pharmacy Technician in a comparable community or hospital setting. (Required)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Understanding of metric system and basic math concepts. (Required proficiency)
• Good Communications stills are essential. (Required proficiency)
• Understanding of pharmacy computer systems, TPN compounders, and automated dispensing cabinets. (Required proficiency)
• The ability to work autonomously and proactively and see the broader implications of decisions and solutions. (Required proficiency)
• The ability to address complex problems with original and innovative solutions. (Required proficiency)
• The ability to evaluate employee performance and provide constructive feedback. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) State of Ohio CPhT license (Required)
