Location Fry YMCA, 2120 95th St, Naperville, IL 60564, USA. Compensation Pay: $17.90–$18.45 per hour, Monday‑Friday schedule. The final offer is based on skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other factors. Description Fry Family YMCA is hiring Summer Day Camp Counselors for Summer 2026. As a counselor you will create a safe, exciting camp environment, lead recreational activities, and serve as a positive role model, ensuring every youth is supervised and supported. Responsibilities Promote the YMCA and provide excellent customer service to children, parents and families. Lead recreational activities such as arts and crafts, sports, social recreation, nature hikes, archery, and other games. Instruct campers using various teaching methods and modify activities as needed to engage all ages and experience levels. Teach socially acceptable behaviors and use age‑appropriate positive reinforcement and behavior management strategies. Communicate consistently with supervisors, team leaders, unit leaders and other team members to keep everyone informed about camp activities and schedules. Support assigned camp activities, including specialty activities, as directed by a supervisor. Ensure the physical and emotional health and safety of campers by following YMCA standards, evaluating situations for risks and maintaining a safety‑conscious environment. Monitor campers and counselors, providing corrective coaching and intervention as necessary. Set up facilities and equipment for activities, store equipment appropriately after use, and maintain cleanliness of camp facilities. Qualifications Commitment to and passion for working with diverse youth. Enjoy working outdoors, creative, and willing to work and play hard. Experience in camping, childcare, education, recreation, sports or related fields is a plus but not required. Must be 18 years of age or older by the start of camp. Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to tailor communication to multiple audiences. Ability to establish constructive relationships and serve as a positive role model.
