Respiratory Therapist (CRT/RRT) Specialty Hospital Hampton Roads

Hampton Roads, VA Day Shift | 3x12-Hour Shifts | 36 Hours per Week

What You'll Do

As a Respiratory Therapist, you will provide advanced cardiopulmonary care for medically complex patients, including:

• Assessing patients and developing respiratory treatment recommendations
• Managing invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation
• Administering oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, nebulized medications, and humidification therapies
• Performing tracheostomy care, suctioning, airway management, and secretion clearance techniques
• Monitoring patient status through pulse oximetry, capnography, arterial blood gases, chest imaging, and pulmonary function testing
• Assisting with specialized procedures, including bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, tracheostomy procedures, and other respiratory-related interventions
• Participating in emergency response situations, including CPR and advanced airway management
• Performing 12-lead EKGs and basic arrhythmia recognition
• Educating patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatments, equipment, and discharge planning
• Collaborating closely with pulmonary and attending physicians to optimize patient outcomes
• Maintaining accurate clinical documentation, charge capture, and handoff communication

Ideal Experience

This role is ideal for therapists with experience in:

• Critical Care (ICU)
• Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC)
• Step-Down or Progressive Care Units
• Ventilator Management
• Tracheostomy and Airway Care
• Complex Pulmonary Disease Management

Required Qualifications

Current Virginia Respiratory Therapist license (or compact/state equivalent as applicable) Active CRT or RRT credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Current BLS Certification prior to first shift Current ACLS Certification prior to first shift

Highly Preferred

Minimum 2 years of bedside respiratory therapy experience Experience with ventilator-dependent and medically complex patients LTAC, ICU, critical care, or acute care hospital experience

Assignment Details

• Schedule: 3 shifts per week
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift: Nights
• Shift Length: 12 hours
