Ultrasound Technologist – Radiology | Casual/PRNProvide quality care, to include diagnostic imaging, patient care and customer service. It is expected to care for our patients from the moment we get an order to the time they leave the department. Blue Mountain Hospital is a Critical Access Hospital, and the Radiology Department responsibilities are to schedule patients, and perform exams while providing optimal patient care. The department works closely with providers at the Strawberry Wilderness Clinic, other departments within the hospital and Central Oregon Radiology Associates. This position is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures in a safe and prudent manner for the specific purpose of producing high quality general abdominal exams, OB/GYN, small parts, venous and carotid Doppler exams. Follows appropriate guidelines for exams, patient needs, confidentiality, QC/QI and archiving.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesPerforms exams from start to finish.Registers/Checks In PatientChecks authorizations and medical necessity.Confirm order is accurate and has authorization.Lab orders/results available within 30 days for CT exams with contrast.Call and schedule patients according to department protocol.Enter correct demographics and order into the RIS.Perform exam according to the physician order and department protocol.Notate appropriate documentationMake exam available to Radiologists to be read via PACSComplete exam within the hospital EHR.Maintain Infection ControlClean after every patientPractice good hand hygieneWipe down high touch surfacesWear proper PPEMaintain QA on Trophon equipment.Meet, Maintain and Exceed Department CompetenciesUltrasound competency checklist provided by departmentSchedulingUsing PACsCore AccountabilitiesParticipate with Radiologist and/or physician by contributing technical and professional knowledge.Review pathology, surgical and delivery reports, as appropriate, to follow patients progress and provide a means of reviewing the accuracy of the diagnostic exam.Exam protocols are followed as necessary.Correlation is made of the clinical history with the exam to be performed.Appropriate use of 2-D, 3-D, M-mode, Doppler, and color flow.Appropriate transducer, gain, field of view, focal range, frame rate, dynamic range, etcConfirm patient preparation and explain procedure to patient.Appropriate patient information is given.Necessary measurements and labels are given.Proper images are generated.JudgmentRecognize the significance of all structures that are visualized.Differentiates artifact from normal or pathologic processes.Determines if anatomy is normal or abnormal and appropriately delineates anyDeviate from normal techniques when necessary.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesBasic computer skillsOccasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.Must be able to maneuver patients on table in order to obtain proper images.Able to lift at least 50 lbs.Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public whether in person or over the phone.Uses AIDET according to BMHD policyAppropriate positioning for the exam ordered by physician.Practices good sterile techniques.Critical thinking:Seeks resources for direction, when necessary.Performs independent problem solving.Decision-making is logical and deliberate.Performs actions that demonstrate accountability.Exercises safe judgement in decision making.Practices within legal and ethical guidelines.Practices and abides by patient safety standards at all times.Handles confidential information according to HIPAA regulations.Train in other modalities and/or assist with training as requested.Education, Experience & Certification/LicensureRequiredGraduate with an Associate or Bachelor degree from an approved school.Maintain the required amount of CEU's per certifying body.Certification through ARDMS or equivalent in abdomen and/or OB/GYN.Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider (HCP) levelLicense from Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) upon start date.Equivalent to standard as described under OAR 337-010-0014 Qualifications of Diagnostic Medical SonographerPreferredOne (1) year experience in abdomen and OB/GYN exams, breast is a plus.
