Our team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help us deliver excellent streaming experiences for Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+ as a developer of our web-based JavaScript player. Our team is responsible for playback across many devices including browsers, televisions, gaming consoles, and set-top boxes. You will have the opportunity to lead in the design and implementation of our cross-platform JavaScript player that runs Disney+, Hulu and ESPN on these devices.We’re looking for an experienced engineer who has video player and cross platform development experience. Excellent fluency in JavaScript and web development is required. You should have a passion for coding and debugging hard problems, and an eagerness to help us deliver seamless video to our subscribers. Being a Senior engineer, you will get to own large features, lead the technical direction of our work, and mentor and provide technical expertise to other engineers. You will work closely with other technical teams in the application layer and backend video services to deliver features.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain our JavaScript player that drives our streaming experienceOptimize our player to perform well for resource constrained platformsCreate and review architecture and technical designsMaintain a strong understanding of our code to identify, research and address issuesCollaborate with application development teams, services engineering teams and product management to help understand and explain device limitations and requirementsLead in strategies to ensure the quality and stability of our deployments, including testing strategies and telemetry approachesDevelop our project’s build system and continuous integration system as neededProvide technical expertise or mentoring to developers on our teamDrive high development standardsBasic QualificationsBS or BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience5+ years of full software development lifecycle experienceHighly fluent in JavaScript and web technologiesExperience developing for web browsers & other web-based client devicesExperience in Streaming technologies, such as:HLS (preferred) or DASHDRM technologies like PlayReady or WidevineAdaptive Bitrate Streaming AlgorithmsCaption and subtitle formats such as CEA-608 / 708Codecs AVC, HEVC, AAC, EAC3Experience developing and optimizing high-performance client-side media applicationsExperience using build runners / compilation tools for multi-platform projectsStrong individual contributor with a drive to learn and patience to teach othersGreat communication and collaboration skills and a strong teamwork ethicExperience using AI-assisted development tools effectivelyPreferred QualificationsExperience developing for living room devices, e.g. Samsung, LG, Hisense, Vizio.Experience developing for gaming consoles (e.g. Playstation, Switch), Android devices (e.g.FireTV), or similar devices#DISNEYTECHThe hiring range for this position in Seattle, WA and in New York, NY is $148,700 to $199,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
