Hardware Electrical Engineer

Job DescriptionMercury Systems is seeking the best and brightest engineering talent to help us deliver cutting‑edge technology for mission‑critical aerospace and defense applications, advancing innovation where it matters most.In this role, our team is looking for an Electrical Engineer II who will serve as a Hardware Design Space Board Designer, executing board‑level hardware development activities from concept through production. You will work on secure processing systems, advanced FPGA solutions, high‑density storage modules, and electronics engineered for extreme space environments. This position plays a critical role in designing high‑reliability embedded hardware for space, airborne, and defense platforms, driving technical excellence and contributing directly to national security and the safety of our world.Job Responsibilities:Develop board‑level digital circuits and modules that meet space‑grade system and customer requirements, from concept through productionManage embedded hardware development activities including compute modules, storage modules, and high‑reliability designs for space applicationsDesign high‑performance, high‑reliability PCBs using processing and storage components qualified for space missionsAnalyze design quality through peer reviews, verification efforts, and thorough testing to reduce integration risk and ensure mission readinessCollaborate with manufacturing to address board build issues, support DFM/DFA/DFT activities, and participate in failure investigationsDevelop detailed schematics using tools such as Cadence DEHDL (Concept) and collaborate with CAD/SI teams during PCB layout Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalentTypically requires a minimum of 2+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience in board‑level hardware design, manufacturing, or sustaining rolesExperience designing embedded digital hardware incorporating microprocessors, FPGAs, or high‑speed network componentsProficiency in electronic circuit design, schematic capture, and troubleshooting of digital, analog, and power circuits; understanding of signal integrity fundamentals for high‑speed digital design“This position requires you to have or obtain a government security clearance. Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.”Preferred Qualifications:Experience with FPGA‑based board designs or high‑density storage devicesDevelopment experience with embedded high‑speed interfaces (10G+)Familiarity with radiation‑tolerant components and space derating guidelinesExperience performing worst‑case circuit analysis for space applicationsExperience with VITA 46/78 (VPX/ SpaceVPX)Strong interest in space‑grade electronics designProficiency with Cadence Allegro for PCB analysis and design reviewUnderstanding of signal‑integrity principles for high‑speed digital boardsExperience with requirements‑management tools (JAMA, DOORS) or Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence)Knowledge of DFM, DFT, DFR, and cost‑aware design practicesExperience contributing to or leading small engineering tasks or work packagesKnowledge or experience with radiation effects on electronic hardware (TID, SEE, etc.)Job RequirementsWhy should you join Mercury Systems?Mercury Systems is a technology company that makes the world a safer, more secure place.
